Hand Care / Can you bend your pinky finger independently? How?!?
-
Date: Mon, Oct 3 2011 11:04:13
I have been doing many things and Greg Irwin stuffs for my pinky to bend, but I don't see any progress. Can someone confirm that if it is possible to bend the pinky for people, like me, who can't do it normally? Can it be done with training and practice? Help! Thank you in advance.

So you really mean you have done some exercise to do it? Right?!? You're bringing me hopes!!! -

Ok. Heres how you do it. 1. Take ring. 2. Hold the it in place. 3. Bend you pinky as far as you can while still holding the ring finger up. (This will probably hurt) 4. Hold your pinky down for about 10 seconds. 5. Repeat as needed.

It is possible with practice. I couldn't do it before penspinning (I could, but it hurt like hel) Now I can do it without a problem!~

Honestly, it kinda just came to me... the thing im training now is my ring. Developing style u see :) -

no reason to honestly. yeah, it'll help for a few things, but you just need to be able to have it move reasonably by itself enough to let the pen by. I can't nor will I ever be able to bend my pinky totally in without moving my ring finger like it's connected by some invisible string (in a way it technically is). Don't worry about it too much

I can with my left but not with my right... Which SUCKS because I spin mainly with my right. All my fingers on my left hand are independent (guitar?). Might want to teach myself to use both hands.

Left hand: pinky can't bend without ring following, but middle and ring are independant of each other. Right hand: pinky can bend on its own, but ring and middle are horribly attached.

1) put your hands shoulder high, palms facing out, splay your fingers (stretch them sideways) as far as you can,(incl thumb), hold for 5 sec, then relax. repeat 5 times 2) same position (hands shoulder high, palms out), bend your fingers forward, (thumbs remain still), (like a wave), bend them as far forward as you can without pain, hold 5 sec, relax. repeat 5x 3) wiggle your fingers and thumb (as if scrunching something), slowly and with deliberate stretch. Continue for 5 sec, relax and repeat 5x Do these exercises whenever you think of them (as often as possible) Apply alternate hot and cold compresses for any inflammation (if you have). 10 min warm, 10 min cold Ibuprofen for any pain or inflamation before bed should help as well. Keep your fingers as nimble as possible, I use rubber band in my fingers

It feels weird. Is that really the thing that I must feel? Not much pain anyway. -

IMO, there really are people who can't do this kind of finger flexibility.. I have pser friends who also can't bend their pinky. ^_^ i think it's not a skill to be learned.. It is like an inborn stuff. XD

Why do you want to be able to do that, anyway?

Personally, my friends tease me because I can't do that. :( And yeah, for a few things, it can help me PS more in the 34 area. -

That's pretty senseless teasing someone with such thing. =/ Just tell them people's fingers are genetically different and the ability/flexibility of fingers varies from person to person. And I don't really think it helps anything about PS at all, I can't bend my pinky without moving my ring either and I see no problem so far. For such tricks like Inverse Sonic 34-23 ~> Shadow 24-24 or Inverse Sonic 34-23 ~> MA Reverse 24-23, all come with practice. I'm able to do both and my pinky flexibilty remains the same. You can learn to 'adjust' your pinky that way if you want, but in my opinion it doesn't make anything better. Be satisfied with what the nature has given to you. -

They won't listen to such things. But anyways, maybe it will develop as time passes by. I'm just frustrated that I can't do the BaKfall, that's my real reason. -

After 1 year of spinning and a lot of finger exercises now I can bend my pinky half way down :D I just exercise my pinky by bending all my fingers down and trying to raise all of them instead of the pinky

I have looked at m friends hands and found I have very independant fingers. I can touch my palm with any finger and have the other fingers at least at a 140 degree angle. During classes where the teacher doesn't let you spin, I do stretches, just bend a finger one way until it hurts and hold it for a few seconds. There is hope, it won't happen over night.

What if you slept with your finger on your palm and other fingers bent back? -

You wouldn't get gradual muscle growth, you'd wake up with your muscle snapped if it didn't revert. -

Just keep moving it up and down, all day long. During school, waiting for the bus, etc. You fingers will be sore, but you will adjust.
