I was wondering if I were to tape my pinky to my palm or any other finger to my palm for prolonged time (overnight), if that could create independent movement for the taped finger?

I would not recommend that.... Do you toss and turn in your sleep? I don't think you want to break any knuckles/fingers during sleep. :E

not gonna work. jsut hold down your ring finger and stretch your pinky as far as possible for a few seconds. relax then do it again. it kinda works for me when i do it with ring+middle finger

Stretching has to be gradual or you will snap the ligament. Don't do this.

Do not under any circumstance do this. It is dangerous. You will gradually attain finger independence and flexibility with practice.

Seems that more problems will happen instead of benefits. I recommend just stretching and spinning. It may hurt your hand.

Not really dangerous but it wont work, basically the problem with pinky independence is that you need to actually build the ligament that controls it independent of your ring finger, in most people its sorta fused. Static stretching isn't that helpful in these cases. Taping works more with sort of finger positional aspects of your hand. aka, your finger can already do it, but you've built up a bad habit of moving it out of the way; then you could tape it in place and practice said tricks to get your hand looking the way you want it.

Thanks to everybody who answered! I will definitely persist with finger stretching rather than trying to take a short cut

Slow practice fast progress Fast practice slow progress No practice no progress Just take time. There is no short cuts to penspinning =) eventually, you will gain the dexterity you dreamed of. =)
