Reverse charge was the most difficult trick for me and it has continue to hinder me till today. I learned it over two years into spinning and have yet to master it. To all newbs. Learn your revs!!
-
Date: Thu, Jun 24 2010 22:39:51
I agree, I never learned charge rev at all, and now I really regret it, and now I'm just too lazy to learn anything new so it will probably stay that way :s
-
Date: Fri, Jun 25 2010 00:15:22
TA rev was very hard... The scratch motion drove my head in!!
-
Date: Fri, Jun 25 2010 01:22:04
interesting experience, but i cant believe i didnt learn charge reverse..i can do power tricks...multiple busts...bakriser...but i cant do charge rev :(
-
Date: Fri, Jun 25 2010 01:22:14
Haha yes, it's like scratching a barrel. I didn't get Thumb around reverse until later as well, the push wasn't very natural for me.
-
Date: Fri, Jun 25 2010 02:09:20
well i see some of you haven't learned charge rev. What is interesting for me is that i learn charge rev. think it was normal charge. So maybe if that hadn't happened, i would know charge rev. either lol
-
Date: Fri, Jun 25 2010 02:52:28
Yah... many new spinners find charge reverse much easier to learn. Like the people I know who picked up the charge on their own, do it "reverse"
-
Date: Fri, Jun 25 2010 03:13:07
i still have trouble with charge rev >.<. and ta rev took me ages to learn, the scratching motion got me, cuz i curled my finger in instead of pushing the pen. also shadow was a bit of a pain, couldn't get the pen to spin on my hand.
-
Date: Fri, Jun 25 2010 03:27:53
I also havent learned Rev Charge yet >,<. Once I discovered how to do Sonic 23 and 34, I couldnt stop doing it :P. Shadow was relatively easy for me ._.
-
Date: Fri, Jun 25 2010 04:02:57
i remembered this back when i was learning the revs of the fundamentals. it took me longer to learn TA rev rather than charge rev.
-
Date: Fri, Jun 25 2010 04:32:53
I learnt all the fundamentals over the course of 1.5 years. When I started PSing, I wanted to learn the cool and difficult stuff first so I skipped all the fundamentals which really made learning linkages and combos difficult. Anyone reading this who just started PSing and has the same mentality as me, I strongly encourage you to master the fundamentals first before moving on to the other stuff. The hardest trick to master for me was the fingerpass normal and rev. It took me months to learn all the fundamentals because I procrastinated in learning them (other than the charge)
-
Date: Fri, Jun 25 2010 06:09:05
I'm a relatively new pen spinner, and I can't get down normal charge. For some reason the charge I do naturally is charge rev. I've learned how to fingerpass, but not reverse. I've also got TA and rev TA down. I learned TA rev relatively easily because someone told me to just move your index finger as if you were pulling a trigger.
-
Date: Fri, Jun 25 2010 06:43:35
shadow was easy, sonic was hardd i got rev sonic like real fast though then at the beginning i couldnt stop doing sonic rise fall -.-
-
Date: Fri, Jun 25 2010 06:49:40
@Hippo same situation. I skipped charge rev and FP rev and it's a pain, sometimes. Generally the direction I spin in results in me never using fingerpass rev, but I think I should consider learning it anyways, as an escape mech (what?). I had so much trouble with TA rev, then I just got it. Same with sonic.
-
Date: Fri, Jun 25 2010 18:02:50
my advice: if you havent learned charge, learn charge rev first. it'll be easier to learn charge normal after learning charge rev than learning charge rev after learning charge normal ;)
-
Date: Fri, Jun 25 2010 19:45:03
@blahblahting: Actually I don't believe so, my friends who learned charge rev first had jsut as difficult a time learning the normal charge, and it also confused them about pen spinning trick directions in general.
-
Date: Sat, Jun 26 2010 03:05:23
I still can't do Sonic Rev :(
-
Date: Sat, Jun 26 2010 06:00:22
My fingerpass took a while to get smooth and wow...rev charge that was terrible and dont even think i have it down fully yet OTL
-
Date: Mon, Jun 28 2010 14:18:40
I found the reverse tricks to be soooo much freakin' harder to learn :(
-
Date: Mon, Jun 28 2010 21:33:49
I learned all the main fundamentals, not reverses, then just jumped straight into medium tricks. Stuff like the shadow (which was actually pretty easy for me to get..) but now I'm going back for reverse fundamentals, and I'm having SERIOUS issue with the Reverse Sonic... For whatever reason, I just can't get it. Any tips on that one? And the Charge Reverse. That one's a pain as well... >.>

Try learning charge rev first makes rev sonic easier so you can make it circular -
Date: Tue, Jun 29 2010 04:16:37
When you start to learn your shadows, it is time to pick up a mod of some kind. I tried forever to do it with a normal pencil and I never got it until the day I got my first mod.
-
Date: Tue, Jun 29 2010 09:16:27
Charge Rev is probably the hardest trick for me to do still. I can do all slots with palm down, but i can hardly do Charge Rev 12-12 with my hand on it's side.
-
Date: Tue, Jun 29 2010 12:04:22
TA rev and charge rev are really hard...... i can do them after 1 month (smoothly) and i try them in each slot....and i get problem... they make me sick
-
Date: Tue, Jun 29 2010 14:09:03
lol... i was doing charge rev even before i started spinning. i've been doing rev charge since 10 i was under the "nonspinners doing ta and fingerpassses and stuffs" category tat time so wheni started spinning rev sonic was a blast for me, got it the first time i tried :D
-
Date: Tue, Jun 29 2010 19:59:09
I'm new to pen spinning, vie been doing it for about a month or so now, and I pretty much can do all the fundamentals ! The one that's still giving me s hard time is the sonic rev! It's driving me batty , but like is said I'm still new. So I'll just keep at it! Other then that I'm picking everything up normal and rev pretty easy : ) the charge rev was the one I worked on the longest!
-
Date: Tue, Jun 29 2010 23:17:51
Try and get a general idea of what kind of spinner you want to become. Do you want to do a lot of two-handed stuff? a lot of power tricks? This will help push you in the right direction when progressing in your pen spinning. I know some people who learned with their left (non-dominant) hand at the same time as the right hand. However, I only know the basics with my left hand because I never really want to use it.
-
Date: Wed, Jun 30 2010 02:06:54
And I :TA: 2 hours, TA rev: 1 day , Sonic: 2 days ,Sonic Rev : 1 month :) , Charge: Easyy....done it on my 1st try, Charge Rev: 3 month and still can't do it smoothy ....:)
-
Date: Wed, Jun 30 2010 09:08:45
I recently realised that when I casually spin now, I don't do a lot of reverse tricks. I was thinking about why and I realise it's because I didn't pay much attention to my reverse fundamentals. When I learned how to do the reverse in the beginning, I just left it as it is. Don't do that, It'll seriously affect your freestyling later on.
-
Date: Fri, Jul 2 2010 17:05:37
hmm.... the hardest fundamental (for me) is the sonic... i just started with PS, but thumbaround was relatively easy, after finding a good video tutorial it took about 10 minutes to learn... not to master though..
-
Date: Sat, Jul 3 2010 10:32:21
Sonic was so hard....... People who tried to teach just kinda showoff(at that time) ' you see? it's so fast, thats why it's called sonic, like that game character' I was like' I don't givafuk, just do it slowly so I can learn it!!'
-
Date: Mon, Jul 5 2010 05:52:46
TA was the hardest trick for me i think. This was when i first found Kam's Pentrix website and i learned it from him and googling around. For some reason it took me like 3 days to understand how to even hold the pen >_> ...ah yes. the dark ages
-
Date: Tue, Jul 6 2010 17:49:18
rev sonic is hard, I'm just now getting it smooth and working it into combos. Charge reverse is an un-learned fundamental for me after spending 10+ hours on it. Yah I can do Hai Tua, midbak 1.5's, backfall, palmspins, but no, not that silly old reverse charge. Any tips? Also I've been spinning for a year and a half.
-
Date: Thu, Jul 8 2010 05:30:24
learning the fundamentals for me, technically took me like 2 years lol, I learned the TA, Sonic, and Charge Reverse a LONG time ago and when i got back to penspinning I learned the rest of the fundamentals. School definitely helps when you're learning new tricks since you can just practice during class :P
-
Date: Fri, Jul 9 2010 03:37:00
Mmm.. too be honest guys, the very first trick I learned was shadow :] thumbaround was a little bit harder but yea id say the easiest one i learned was charge, then Jae taught... actually more like eso taught me how to do sonic xD took me 5 minutes
-
Date: Fri, Jul 9 2010 07:49:32
i having trouble with twisted sonic bust, hella hard for me ahaha and trying to make one more fundamental combo before i go to advanced combos
-
Date: Sun, Jul 11 2010 03:46:04
I could really use some help with Charge Normal. I can do the rotation fine, but the pen just falls in between my fingers after a few rotations. If I try to apply a firmer grip, the pen doesn't move.
-
Date: Fri, Jul 16 2010 22:16:40
Charge rev is the only fundamental I haven't mastered yet... I always end up doing the normal one <_<
-
Date: Fri, Jul 16 2010 22:46:36
For charge reverse, the finger that's providing the motion is the upper finger, while for charge normal it's the bottom finger. Just work on moving the upper one.. I don't really know what else to say.
-
Date: Sat, Jul 17 2010 22:09:46
i always thought the most difficult fundamental was the sonic. I thought i was doing it right for like 3 months. then i was told i was doing something closer to a "ghetto fingerpass" then i mastered the sonic a few hours later.
-
Date: Sun, Jul 18 2010 06:26:41
I personally have trouble with twisted sonic reverse. My MX doesnt like me yet >.<
-
Date: Mon, Jul 19 2010 04:06:38
Most of every single fundamental came easy to me but one I had a lot of trouble with was the reverse sonic. Even tho I watched Eso's tutorial 500 times, I was still struggling. It took me three or more days to just get one really nice clean one then one or two weeks later to perfect it. I also still can't do the charge rev.
-
Date: Tue, Jul 20 2010 22:03:24
I learned charge and thumbaround quickly. Sonic took me a while (I learned twisted sonic, warped sonic, and reverse warped sonic before the basic sonic). It wasn't hard for me to do fingerpass, but fingerpass rev is still kinda hard for me. Thumbaround reverse took me about a week to learn. :)
-
Date: Sat, Jul 24 2010 17:39:43
It took me forever to do a sonic but then once I realized what I was doing wrong I proceeded to give myself a face palm and got mastered it in 20 minutes.
-
Date: Sun, Jul 25 2010 08:06:09
While I had a hard time learning all the fundamentals, the fingerpasses were the most frustrating by far. They took me months to get as opposed to a couple of weeks.
-
Date: Sun, Jul 25 2010 23:00:59
I learned Fingerless Thumbaround Reverse months before I learned Thumbaround Reverse because I could not get the push correct. I just gave up for a while and moved onto FL TA Rev so that I could fake a TA Harmonic (TA Nor ~ TA Rev). >_< After being scolded for trying to get a FL TA Rev into a Beginner's Tack-On game (absolute Fundamentals only), I finally broke down and learned a correct TA Rev.
-
Date: Mon, Jul 26 2010 03:53:29
I didn't have much trouble learning all the fundamentels. The hardest one for me was probably the fingerpass rev, my finger cant find in a certain way and my rev fingerpass looks very fcuked up.
-
Date: Thu, Jul 29 2010 11:00:41
i learned all the fundmentals with eez :3 except the charge rev, it took me a whole 2 days to learn ! although i suck arse at twisted sonic 34-23 and inverse sonic 34-23 is just impossible xD
-
Date: Sat, Jul 31 2010 20:00:03
I just started penspinning. Or well I've done it a couple of years ago, just did a couple of TA. But I am not sure if I can do it right. I got a youtube link when I do it. Anyone might be able to tell me if its right or wrong? :P Funny voice is funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEEamXdQT7g Where do I ask for help about TA? I just got redirected to the same forum all the time :S
-
Date: Tue, Aug 3 2010 13:21:40
Charge Rev is making my fingers TT.TT EDIT: Also Infinity can't get the momentum correct.
-
Date: Fri, Aug 6 2010 17:25:05
lets see.. just for kicks ill share my fundamental experiences: first i learned ta in a week.. and ta rev in a week.. and eventually i learned ta harmonic from this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdVVt_jXJvM :P i basically perfected that and didnt really know anything else until i meant storm at school who was also into psing. so he showed me some stuff and led me to upsb where i then learned sonic (surprisingly easy for me) then fingerpass and charge came at about the same time (~1 week for both) but i didnt really get smooth at fp for a while.. i actually didnt learn charge rev until about a year after i started bc i was too tough :P and i still cant do fp rev smoothly to this day :P
-
Date: Fri, Aug 13 2010 02:52:36
i saw one of my friends doing a TA and sonic so i asked him how to do those and learned the charge while learning the sonic and i didnt think passes were that important and i was wrong so im still not that good a passes
-
Date: Sat, Aug 14 2010 18:41:34
i learned thumb around, thumb around reverse, sonic, and finger pass all by my self at school then a friend of mine taught me how to do sonic xd
-
Date: Sun, Aug 15 2010 18:15:49
all i can say: learn charge reverse early otherwise its a titballmuncher to learn >.>
-
Date: Sun, Aug 15 2010 18:17:35
all i have to say: learn charge reverse early, otherwise its EXTREMELY difficult to grasp. learning SONIC rev can help you learn CHARGE rev (yeah i found sonic rev easier than charge rev) PRACTICE! >:]
-
Date: Mon, Aug 16 2010 15:35:12
TA Rev took soo long to learn...
-
Date: Wed, Aug 18 2010 12:30:45
yes I got infinity
-
Date: Thu, Aug 19 2010 07:18:58
sonic from 34-23 then 23-12: mastered charge normal 12, and 23: mastered TA: mastered twisted sonic: kinda mastered learning TA reverse, charge reverse, and fingerpasses: Q_Q, worst fundamentals
-
Date: Sun, Aug 22 2010 21:17:45
i kept doing a pass 23-21 instead of a sonic :jawdrop: i also had trouble doing a rev charge but later mastered it.
-
Date: Wed, Aug 25 2010 14:27:52
no offense jan, but i learned rev. charge really easily..
-

That's really good, just keep on practicing. No quick way to get rid of that problem -
Date: Sat, Sep 4 2010 09:18:51
Actually DisDude1 you can try angling your hand up or down depending on which way the pen falls in between your fingers
-
Date: Mon, Sep 6 2010 03:33:49
The thumbaround was quite easy, because I kind of knew it before I actually knew "penspinning." The sonic was difficult to understand, but once I got it, then it seemed easy. Took like three days to get it. Twisted sonic was easier. :) The charge reverse was easier than the charge for some strange reason. I kept on trying, and then one day, I just got it. Fingerpass, I kept on wondering which way to go, lol. In the beginning it was very choppy, but I practiced that for a week, and now it's really smooth.
-
Date: Fri, Oct 1 2010 06:35:25
How important is it to master the fingerpasses? i've mastered all the fundamentals and their reverses, but i still can't get my fingerpasses to be smooth. How will this affect my future penspinning?
-
Date: Fri, Oct 1 2010 07:26:45
@lvk96 It would but you can start learning other tricks in the process of mastering your fingerpass. As long as you can do each pass it should be fine. A smooth fingerpass would affect how well you can do combos in the future but if you can't do much tricks then you can start learning them simultaneously. Just my opinion.

hmm that makes sense, thanks :D -

So is the suggestion for noobs , to learn ALL fundamenetals?
-
Date: Sun, Oct 17 2010 07:47:06
Yes, and polish them up. Watch some of eririor's videos and you'll understand they can be as awesome as some more advanced tricks. I personally am still practicing fundamentals and there is still waaaay to go. Including of course all links of all tricks in all slots in all directions.

Im trying to do the rev of the thumaround and I dont know where or how to apply the force to make the thumg go around.
-
Date: Sun, Oct 17 2010 21:50:32
The best advice I've gotten and given, is to find the center of balance(put it on your finger until is is balanced) and that's about where you want your middle finger to push

watch eso's video...if your a righty, type in converted to the right hand... -

I haven't learned Charge Reverse yet. Some people are just born with that trick >.> I had trouble learning Reverse TA, but once you learn it, Harmonics is cake. Shadow was difficult too xD
-
Date: Mon, Oct 18 2010 20:38:09
hey guys. i started three weeks ago and made one video each week. maybe someone will have something to lough or it will help someone newer then me to see how someone improves. after first week ( a little to long...): after second week: after third week:

These videos remind me of times when I couldn't do a simple Sonic, or Reverse ThumbAround >.>
-

twisted sonic bust took me about 4 days to get it perfect and shadow about 1 week. my charge rev is a little slow. try learning sonic reverse it helps with rev charge
-

christian wrote: twisted sonic bust took me about 4 days to get it perfect and shadow about 1 week. my charge rev is a little slow. try learning sonic reverse it helps with rev charge
What up Christian! lol I don't know why but charge rev was the easiest thing for me but I suck at normal charges. tw sonic bust was a pain but after an hour I started getting it. Btw I finally got double busting. We must spin in bio haha -
Date: Tue, Oct 19 2010 21:57:37
@conan yesterday my bust was good but today it sucked again until toward the end of 6th period. i gotta keep practicing i guess to get the feel down in my head. that double bust of yours is pretty good i gotta learn that. pretty funny when don fell.
-
Date: Tue, Oct 19 2010 23:17:05
@Cyrik On your TA harmonic, you shouldn't open your index up that much. Just catch it with your middle, then push again, and catch with only index, then continue.

This is so hard @_@ I can do it only holding the pen next to the tip... Twisted sonic with the slot 3 to 2 is killing me too  -
Date: Fri, Oct 22 2010 14:44:23
These posts make me feel good cause I got the charge Rev in one day, and I'm only been spinning for 6 weeks xD
-
Date: Sat, Oct 23 2010 00:39:33
took an hour to learn the sonic, it's still hard to get it consistent. I've known how to do the charge/rev charge with finger 1-2 and 3-4 for a long time with a switch between them. i think this made it harder for me to comprehend the process of a sonic. *shrugs*
-
Date: Sat, Oct 23 2010 18:35:46
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who put off charge rev. lol. I can do charge rev. but not fast, smooth, etc. I need to work on it. I also was accidentally doing a pass instead of a sonic for awhile, but I fixed it as soon as I realized.
-
Date: Sat, Oct 23 2010 20:50:29
Charges are FUN. I'm training a nice variation of fingerpass, which adds a charge in avery slot, so it looks like few twisted sonics in a row, but the charge goes in the opposite direction. One round 12-->12 looks very nice. Rev. of this one is a bit tricky for me though. Also I recommend everyone to look up this mini combo: twisted sonic 23-12 -> pass 12-23 -> charge 23 -> pass 23-12 As I remember I found it somewhere on eririor's channel. Easy and beautiful. so have faith in charges! ;) @down it might be that, I hardly ever try to name those tricks since they can be broken down to fundamentals
-
Date: Sun, Oct 24 2010 02:24:04
I think Nikolaos is talking about the Double charge. I still cant do charge rev either >< Took me a while for sonic rev as well.
-
Date: Mon, Oct 25 2010 05:19:15
i can do all normal fundamentals but i can only do fingerpass reverse until now :(
-
Date: Tue, Nov 2 2010 20:22:42
All of the fundamentals were pretty easy for me charge rev. took some time to learn, but even after weeks of trying i still can't do the sonic rev. any tips?
-
Date: Tue, Nov 2 2010 21:19:49
yep im learning charge rev and sonic rev they are both hard. I skipped them for later and learned shadow, twisted sonic, thumaround to air.I think imma go practice them now. lol =) =) O_O

Well I started with PS just yesterday :) I have like 50% success rate on TA... now should I learn Charge or Sonic? They both look just impossible for me to do :D ... specially the Charge... I cant make the pencil to spin slower, so my fingers dont move fast enough to keep the motion smooth...

I suggest you to first master TA to 90% succes rate, then move to harder tricks. TA Charge Sonic Twisted sonic Rev TA Rev Charge Rev sonic Fingerpass You should learn those tricks, then go to more advanced like: Shadow Busts Spreads Haitua -

Charge is relatively easy to ThumbAround. Try to move your hand and wrist in a circular motion starting off. Later you'll learn how to control that so you don't see that motion as much. Your fingers adapt to the practice. For sonic, just learn to charge inbetween your ring and middle fingers then move your middle forward and bring your index and ring together, it'll do a circular motion. Learn both. I just did a mini tutorial right here. LOL. I regret not learning Reverse Charge in my early days of PS. -

this is probably lame but the only fundamental combo i can come up with is sonic 43-32 > sonic 32-21 > ta rev

Sonic 34-23-12 > Ta > Ta Rev > Fingerpass > Charge > Sonic Rev 12-23-34 I think this is an easy combo. btw: I can do one charge reverse spin! Learning Sonic reverse helped me a lot. Now I just gotta try till I can do it~

Well, Reverse Sonic is easy now. Can't really Rev. Charge well. For some reason my Fingerpass still sucks.

I'm just saying, I took a trip to Hawaii last summer Before the plane trip: my Fingerpass sucked After the plane trip: beast Fingerpass :D Took a long time but it was worth it

Can't do the Rev. Sonic 23-34. But im still trying to do it.

Yay I was one of the non-pen spinners who picked up charge reverse by myself when I was 12. I learned all of the fundamentals and I guess the hardest one would be charge normal. Still trying to get fingerpass reverse smooth though, it feels as if I spent too much time on it and it gets slow everytime it comes into the 3-4 slot D:

Well, my friend was the first to ever teach me a trick. He was no penspinner, he just knew a trick i thought was cool (at the time...). Later in the summer, i found out, it was called the thumbaround. That is the moment i first watched rukariorey's pen spinning basics video. August 2010 is when i fist actually got into pen spinning.
-

When I first learned how to do a thumbaround I failed miserably. I bent my index finger down instead of lifting it up. I'm a noob and can't do anything else yet :D

fundamentals, the start of pen spinning i engaged in a fustrating bout with fundamentals at first, but when i got them, i was finally satisfied. And later mastered them all

-

My friend introduced to me the charge. I wasn't able to do the normal charge i just keep on doing the charge reverse. then later i searched it up on youtube then i found out that there are lots of other tricks. Thats when i started Penspinning.

Hmmm.. Guess this is the right thread. My first post btw! Anyways, trying to master the triple infinity, but my littlefinger just doesnt seem to keep up. :P Any tips on dexterity training? Or should i just keep trying as i have done with infinity/double.
-

Take a break form trying to learn it and get used to using 34 from other tricks, charge 34, sonic 34-23, inv sonic 34-23 (this one is tricky, but awesome for dexterity) and stuff will greatly improve your finger dexterity, if you go back to infintys after being able to do those it should be fairly easy to get it and you will have much better control of the 34 slot. otherwise you can just keep on practicing triple infinity, and worry about the 34 slot for other things later, either way will work.

I mastered all my fundamentals in 3 weeks of penspinning. Thumbaround was piece of cake, thumbaround reverse took me about 4 hours, sonic took me a couple of days, fingerpass took me a few days (to pass fast). But even after PSing for about 2 months, I can't do a legit combo.
-

Lol I could do charge since I was like 9 years old.
-

I don't remember how long it took me, but I just gave up on reverse charge, reverse sonic, and reverse fingerpass for now because they're so annoying
-

Don't know why but ... errr .... I knew Charge rev before Charge, but I can't FP rev after learning FP (2 months later a little smoother), can't Sonic rev after learning Sonic (2 months too...), can't TA rev (1 months later - I knew TA be4) .... And now I'm quite good :D Just practise and keep moving 4ward :D
-

sonic rev was relatively easy to learn but i cant really do it from 23-34, so hard, i still have yet to master it i know shadow is not a fundamental but some people have commented about it so i think that i shall the shadow is the hardest trick that i have ever learnt, i still cant do it, probably every one in 10 tries, its just too hard for me, took my months and months till i got it. i hear people saying they got it in 30 mins of learning, and some learn it as one of their first 10 tricks, and im just like how the f*#k

I guess if you think about it, it can actually be helpful to people who are still learning. They'll realize from reading this that to learn even the basics takes a lot of practice. It's also normal to have to spend quite some time constantly repeating a trick to get it right. :)

I'm also from Ohio and I'm a freshman in high school. I had about the same experience with the sonic except I learned the twisted sonic before it and then I always did it instead. I also have a problem doing the fingerpass fluidly and the charge is a pain in the arse. Single charges haven't given me any trouble. One of my favorite tricks is the figure 8 and the infinity. Great tricks to do while also doing something else in fact I'm doing it right now. I've been spinning a little bit each night for about the last month. Right now I'm working on thumbaround harmonic >:)

QuinnC11 wrote: Hi everyone i just started spinning a few days ago so i figured I would tell other people about my experiences learning each of the fundamental tricks. Charge - Still working on this one, right now I've put maybe 30 minutes practice in to it, but i either do a sonic, drop it, or do a very sloppy single charge. I'll get around to it though. ThumbAround - I actually learned this one on my own without even knowing pen spinning existed a long time ago, but it took me about 2 days to learn. I kept dropping the pen a lot and every once in a while I'd come very close and not get it. Then i would get it a few times in a row and drop it. Now i can do it as many times as i want, rarely dropping it. Sonic - This is a fun one to know. I just learned it 2 days ago, took be about 3 hours of practicing to get it the first time. The whole time i was trying i felt like i was making no progress which was very discouraging. The first time i got it i was not able to repeat it for about another 20 tries. Learning this trick sucked because the whole time i felt like i would never get it and i kept thinking "well my fingers are too long" or "my pen is too short/heavy/light". But i managed to get it and can do it with all kinds of different writing utensils now. FingerPass - Another one i knew a long time ago, this one is a very easy one to learn, came very naturally to me. The problem I'm having is that it isn't smooth at all and not fast at any comparison. Still in progress I'd declare. Because this is my first post I'll give a little introduction. My name is Quinn, i live in Ohio, United States. I am 18 years old and currently in my last year of highschool. I love learning tricks that i can do anywhere which is why pen spinning looks so appetizing to me. I hope to become good at it so i have something fun i can do anywhere there is a pen. Well anyway, nice meeting you all, thanks for reading. I hope to learn a lot from everyone at this site. Thanks again guys. In summary: Charge - Still in progress ThumbAround - Fun to learn, fun to know. Sonic - Not fun to learn, fun to know. FingerPass - In progress for smoothness and speed.
heheh long fingers.. ur lucky.. that helps in pen spinning unlike my stubby little sausages... -

This is my experience in pen spinning. :/ Thumbaround - It's an ok trick but for some people who are learning, they just can't keep their thumb still. The position to start it is also another thing. Hold the TOP HALF of the pen. <_< Learned in a day. Fingerpass - Some people can't get this trick smooth on all fingers because they don't have finger independence in the pinky, ring, and/or middle finger area. The only reason why I mastered it's smoothness was because I learned backfall first. Sonic - Yes, this trick gives frustration; especially when I tried to master it in a single hand position: palm down. So one day, I decided to place my hand vertical and it worked. :) Took me 3 days. Charge - This trick seems overrated. Lots of people do it (or at least try to). I already knew how to do this on my first try. It gets difficult at slot 34. Reverses on all these tricks were TWICE as difficult. Reverse TA - Index finger doesn't have power to push the pen back. Took me a month to master this. x_x Reverse Fingerpass - Same problem for regular fingerpass. Still not smooth enough and I don't bother with this trick unless I get bored. Reverse Sonic - TWICE as frustrating because it wasn't the natural hand movement. Plus it would rotate. Reverse Charge - I learned this after i learned sonic reverse. OOBER frustrating just like reverse sonic. I'm a spinner for 2.5 years now. I became serious about pen spinning 2 years later.

TA was actually the hardest fundamental for me since it was the very first pen spinning trick I practiced. Other than that I guess I taught myself charge and sonic took me like 10 mins of practice to get. But I can't do charge and sonic reverse >.>

The thumb around reverse was the hardest fundamental because i learned it wrong then it took me awhile to learn it the right way

I noticed that some spinners said that the tutorials don't help. I had the same mentality when I started spinning but I realised back then that it's not that the tutorials don't help, it was me who was doing it wrong so I reevaluated how I was learning the trick. Check every single step meticulously. One way or another, the tutorial was right and I was wrong.

Well i'd say the charge. You're supposed to learn it 23-23 (I believe that's what the wiki said), however i learned it 12-12. So, I can't do a charge 23-23 for crap right now.

whats weird is that i am better at fingerless TA reverse than regualar Ta reverse. it's weird. :o

that's not weird ... I'm better at FLTA rev too :D Not suprisingly, I mastered the FLTA rev BEFORE I learned the TA rev :D (and of course FLTA harmonic BEFORE TA harmonic)

So far my trick set is Ta, Ta reverse(Just learned), Fingerpass, Charge 23 and 12, Sonic, infinity, and Twisted Sonic. I'm mostly having trouble with Charge rev, and fingerpass rev.

O-o they are posting like their first full combos I guess. You don't need to be that good to do a combo. Mine was sonic 34-23 - tw. sonic 23-12 - TA - TA rev. - Tw. sonic bust 23-12 It was the best thing with the few moves I knew. Later I added in shadows and stuff.

combo's come much later if you first starting out.. yeah a few months about.. it took me like 8 months before i started making combos :L.. /e by combo's i mean like 10+ trick linkages, linking 2-3 tricks together doesnt really count as a combo imo -

ooow, I get it, I'll just learn a lot of techniques first then. Um, how do you connect sonic/twisted sonic to thumbaround? The sonics end at slot 12, but the TA is using middle finger. I'm not sure how to connect these techniques. Sorry if the question is too noobish... thanks.

i don't suggest you doing that "mini combo" as it is very difficult for your level im assuming you can try Sonic 3-4>Twisted Sonic>thumb around maybe twisted sonic bust to thumbaround -

-

I took like a whole 3 hours to get my first thumb around and I remember how different it felt from constant failure when I caught it lol, I also remember my first sonic, at first I thought it was done as a neosonic and when I got it right it felt completely different and I was doing all different twisted sonics and reverses before I had known their names. I got charges done in less than a day and took me like 3 weeks to get double charge motion right, and as for finger pass I was doing it since like 2 years before I even knew about pen spinning lol
-

Im super new and can only do like 5-6 tricks but I'm having so much fun with TA rev lol... I found the motion pretty tough to figure out but once I understood it physically (like not just understanding it in my head, understanding HOW to slide my finger) it took no time at all to be able to do it most of the time. I'm still having trouble with the reg charge lmao I can only do 3-4 in a row before the pen slides away or just starts see-sawing.

try tilting your hand in the opposite direction and it'll get back to the center of gravity, little by little it gets really easy although you dont need to do that many revolutions for charges, I had a hard time with double charge but when I got it down I started doing it as much as possible until I just get tired and cant keep up lol -

My first trick that I learnt was the index around many years ago. Then my interest was revived and I learnt sonic and sonic reverse... Took me 3 months to get it (yes I'm slow). I've also learnt thumb around (2 days, with a drumstick) and infinity (not sure if I'm doing it right, took me 30 mins). I tried to learn charge normal and thumbaround rev. but my fingers can't seem to move :(

I found it helpful when I was learning it to focus mentally on keeping my thumb 100% still and letting my fingers do all the work. like my main concentration was on keeping my thumb exactly in place. -

-

Sonic and sonic reverse are fundamental tricks so any spinner that knows how to do the fundamentals can do both, you should learn to do both too. So I don't think a thread is needed for this.
-

Yeh, I see where you are coming from but, as a new spinner ( like me) I am just learning the fundamentals now. I have learnt the sonic, and trying to learn the thumbaround. As doing the harmonic on the thumberound and sonic I see is quite hard I want to learn the all first before learning the harmonics. I have looked on YouTube for some tutorials on them and have watched s777 do it too! How amazing! I just want people to reply to this saying if they can do the harmonic as well as the normal. PS you can reply to do with how ever many of the fundermentals you can do an if you can do the harmonics. Thanks, TNR
-
Date: Wed, Jun 15 2011 11:50:54
well I think that there're many people who can perform sonic harmonic excellently, so there's no point in asking that question :) Generally, everyone who has spun for over 4-5 months has learnt all the fundamentals Good luck with your spinning anyway ^^

Is sonic reverse really used in a combo? lol Anyways spinners 1-3 weeks of serious spinning shouldve learned all the fundamentals IMO There's no point in asking who can do it tho, cuz people that can't do them will most likely not know of this forum, or not interested in it

@Van, It helps get muscle memory. Some people aren't used to the opposite rotation so it's good to learn sonic reverse (or charge reverse).

@Van its about linkages in general, having the reverses opens up a whole new realm of penspinning, you only notice it if you went pretty far into PS without knowing them though :P

For the TA, just push really softly and keep your thumb rod straight. It took me a few minutes to learn finger pass, a few weeks to learn charge and charge rev, and about 4 months to learn sonic.

I've been spinning about 3 weeks now. I can do charge (about a week to get smooth) Sonic (about a week) TA (3 hours to master) Fingerpass (learned in an hour but still not smooth or quick) Charge rev (I can do 1 charge that's about it) Sonic rev (I can do it sometimes) TA rev (again sometimes) Fingerpass rev (choppy on 34) Shadow took my 20 minutes to learn same with twisted sonic Took me a day to learn TA extended

I'm your opposite. XD Weeks to learn fp. And minutes to learn ta/ta rev, sonic/sonic rev, and charge/charge rev ~KTSpinner~ -

TA rev still bothers me today, can't get the motion right.

Ah, the fun beginnings of pen spinning. Took me: Sonic, Thumb around, and figure 8 in one day. Spent most of it working on sonic. Fingerpass I knew as a kid, so i was like, oh. Though i'm not so smooth at it. TA reverse took like 3 days. Charge reverse and sonic rev took like a week. Fake double took a 2 or 3 days. Twisted sonic on my first try. Shadow took me like a day or two. Or maybe it was like 3 or 4 I don't remember. Took me a few days to get down continuous shadow and fake double. I can only do like 10 for both at most. Infinity took me a day or two. A Bak took me like 2 weeks because i learned it wrong. Bakfall in a week. Funny how i still can't do a TA ext. Been spinning for like 2 months now.

LL wrote: TA rev still bothers me today, can't get the motion right.
try doing the TA rev after a TA; this will get u into a good position on ur pen to do TA. after TA, curl ur index finger, not to fast, but fast enough so that there is enough momentum to bring the pen around again. i hope that helped... -

for me, the two "beginner" tricks that i had the most trouble with were the sonic and the shadow.
-
Date: Wed, Aug 24 2011 20:39:44
I picked pen spinning back up a few days ago, I had a lot of fun learning Thumbaround Reverse and especially Fingerless Thumbaround. I almost have Charge down, I've been having a little trouble with Sonic but I'll get it.
-
Date: Sun, Sep 25 2011 14:44:42
I started PS last thursday. i learned the thumbaround in a day, the charge in 2 days, sonic in 2... and now currently working on sonic rise, and training my middle finger to bend independently. :D

Well, let's see... I think I learnt the Thumbaround after a few hours like 4 years ago, and I can do like 2 Thumbaround Reverses in the row before I fail at the moment and I've done that for like 20 minutes at most. The FL Thumbaround took me a few hours to learn, same with the Sonic (Managed to bruise my finger because I kept putting too much pressure on xD). Meanwhile, Charge took me A LONG week of on and off practicing (Like probably 5 hours over a 1 week interval), and it was a pain to learn. I can do it pretty well now, palm up and palm down (though I'm still trying to learn Charge 12 >.>). I've started on the Charge Reverse, which is a pain unfortunately -_- How I'm gonna survive learning the rest of the fundamentals I don't know, and I don't want to know. Oh yeah, I can do a Double Thumbaround 1/10 attempts :D
-
Date: Mon, Sep 26 2011 22:17:46
First learned charge, it was easy(one day). Then fingerpass, again easy(one day). Then sonic, which took longer than I expected(one weekish). Lastly TA, which was surprisingly difficult for me to learn at first and I even learned a few more tricks and reverses before it. It probably took a month before I mastered it. :P
-
Date: Thu, Sep 29 2011 11:24:01
hahas. the hardest trick was sonic. dunno why...
-
Date: Thu, Sep 29 2011 12:10:14
fck that charge, made that week like hell >_>
-
Date: Sat, Oct 1 2011 13:08:15
the hardest trick for me was actually the TA reverse o_0
-
Date: Sun, Oct 2 2011 04:33:18
tat is easy..
-
Date: Wed, Oct 26 2011 22:15:14
i use to always try TA palm down... finally realized doing it palm up was easier after a week
-
Date: Sat, Oct 29 2011 14:58:15
I learnt Charge Rev first and found that completely natural, and thought that Charge Rev was Charge for a day. And then learning Charge after that was hell :>
-
Date: Thu, Nov 10 2011 19:27:21
The first trick i ever made was a Thumb Spin 1.5 but today i don´t know how to do it:mad:
-
Date: Thu, Nov 17 2011 02:17:03
I learned thumbaround, sonic, fingerpass, charge, then their reverses in that order :king:
-
Date: Sun, Dec 4 2011 20:40:11
learning charge reverse is one of the hardest and awkward things i have ever learned in pen spinning lol. The movement is so weird o.O Thankfully i have it now though
-
Date: Mon, Dec 5 2011 01:08:01
I first learned sonic then TA pass and after a while i finaly got the charge
-
Date: Mon, Dec 5 2011 19:05:05
I learn TA in a snap I learned a mean Fingerpass Rev (thinking it was Fingerpass) in 2 months -_- Then Charge Rev (thinking it was Charge) Then Sonic Sonic Rev, TA Harmonic, Charge, Pass, TA Rev - in that exact order
-
Date: Tue, Dec 6 2011 00:04:12
I learned Ta, then Sonic, and then Charge and last fingerpass and also their reverses in that order
-
Date: Tue, Dec 6 2011 07:36:22
I learnt my first trick, which is a TA from my friend. It took me 40 minutes to learn that. And yeah as penzila said learning charge rev is the harderst part. :vcool:
-
Date: Wed, Dec 7 2011 23:30:40
ikr! iv got all the fundamentals BUT the ta rev! and now im wokring on charge rev and sonic rev! so hard sux
-

i learned charge thn sonic thn ta still cant do fingerpass fast :( working on it tho :P
-
Date: Sat, Dec 24 2011 05:15:12
I learned t/a reg, charge rev, finger pass, accidentally learned twisted sonic rev, sonic rev, charge reg, sonic reg, and t/a rev. The most difficult fundamental was charge reg. I couldn't get my index finger to stay still, and I still need to smooth out my finger pass.
-
Date: Sat, Dec 24 2011 13:40:10
When i started to learn Ta Rev . I feel that is harder than fingerpass . But finally i mastered it =D

Well charge was going to be difficult seeing as how you knew charge reverse already. That's just how it works -

Someone i know taught me a Thumbaround.. then i learnt reverse by myself (fingerless because i didnt know the proper way hahaha) then i looked on youtube and was like holy crap, i thought TA was like the only trick until then.... then after about 2 months i had every fundamental ( including reverses :P)

Cool! Kari taught me everything except for finger pass. Her Brother taught me finger pass which I still need to smooth out... And I still can't get finger pass reverse down... -

i still can't do fingerpass =.= it's smooth, but after 2 or 3 time, it'll fall D=>

I'll get stuck when the pen is going around my ring finger and go back up to my index and every now and then it'll fall... I'm trying to slow down a little and smooth it out...

same here, i learned sonic rev and then I could finally get the motion of charge rev. I used the same type of motion for the sonic rev for charge rev and then I got it :D but I still need to work on it -
Date: Fri, Feb 24 2012 18:18:32
Thumbaround rev was annoying me, but not as much as the sonic . It was and still is a freaking asshole to me -_- i cant do it fingerlessly, reverse, or in the 34 slot very well.

I failed at doing the thumbaround and was the fundamental that took me the most time to learn. I got so jealous of the non-pen spinners in school who could do it.

I had that same feeling when I was trying to master it. My uncle was like trolling me. Our current minister of education can do it too. I saw him do it when he came to my school for a talk and during the q&a he picked up the pen and did a ta and started writing. Surprise surprise! -

So, how long does the average PSer take to master the fundamentals? I'm trying to teach a couple of friends at school and they're getting bored of practicing TA even though they've only started like 2 days ago.

Each person is different. Some learn faster than others. Don't worry too much about that. ^_^ -

It all depends on the person. Just keep at it and you will learn.

If they are impatient, it means that they do not want to learn these Fundamentals sincerely. If you are really keen on learning and mastering them, you will keep practicing at it. -

Jay4 wrote: Thanks for the responses, my friends are a lot more impatient than I was at learning the fundamentals.
Most people give up that early. That's just how it works. They say it's too hard or they will never be able to do that. Just leave it at that. Hope you keep practicing though. ^_^ -
Date: Sun, Sep 30 2012 05:02:31
2 days for a TA is just right...(althought i overexceeded my expectations and took one week)just tell dem to be patient and they'll get the fundamentals right in no time...
-
Date: Sun, Sep 30 2012 05:54:56
XD in my opinion generally people quit from the start when someone else is teaching them because the teacher is so much better that they can hardly do it they just give up but eh time will fix that usually unless they give up all together
-

I started spinning about a year ago. At this point in time i can do all the fundamentals and all but a few of the reverse variants. I don't practice every day or very extensively either. I do it very casually and have no fear of dropping my pen when doing any of the fundamentals. I figure i'm about normal for a very casual pen spinner so I don't think it should take more than a year to have the fundamentals down.
-

4 days.
-
Date: Sun, Sep 30 2012 23:26:06
i learned all the fundementals and a little bit more in like 5 days of spinning just tell you friends what these people are saying show them a couple penspinning videos and hopefully it will motivate them to keep practicing so they have some insperation
-

I am haveing trouble with the sonic right now thats the only one i dont know took me about 2 weeks i would say to get them down and accutaly do them smoothly.
-
Date: Mon, Oct 1 2012 03:57:22
Took me four hours for charge, five minutes for TA, half an hour hot sonic and about a week for fingerpass.
-
Date: Tue, Oct 2 2012 08:16:36
I think it's depend on each person and perhaps the amount of practice time but...i don't think my friend(who i taught him) take more than two days...
-
Date: Wed, Oct 3 2012 00:33:37
About 2 weeks for a smooth fingerpass, 2 days for thumbaround, 2 days for charge, 1 day for sonic.
-

charge rev down. shadwo was difficult.

I think the main key to mastering all tricks is PRACTISE! Day in, day out, everywhere, anytime! These are things i did, and it learned me to master the fundamentals really quick: - when watching series, tv or movies: SPIN! - when studying: SPIN! - don't use to much tension for the charge and sonic! - always have a pen nearby ( when i learned the tricks, the only pen i had was a superpirate inktkiller, cause of the good weight distribution ) - when learning the thumbaround reverse, just do a thumbaround first and start from the endposition of the TA to begin your TA REV, it made it alot easier for me - PRACTISE PRACTISE PRACTISE! :) To give you a timespan: i have been doing thumbaround and fingerpasses for almost 3 years now, no other tricks. So when i finally decided to learn some new tricks, i made an effort and i learned charge + infinity + thumbaround reverse + sonic in 1 day! The movements are not supersmooth, but it looks very nice ( except sonic, i have some practising to do for that move ) Next up is reverse charge.. I tried it couple of hours, but damn this trick is tricky! Hope this helps for starters!
-
Date: Wed, May 1 2013 00:18:48
Sonic Reverse was incredibly hard for me. It took me like a few weeks to get it right. After that, it was pretty easy. I made up some fundamental combos which included a lot of spam in it, so I asked someone on the board and they gave me a combo. Now, I'm adding tons of stuff to combos.
-
Date: Wed, May 1 2013 02:07:17
I thought sonic was impossible to do. My hand was stiff and hard and i couldnt do anything sonic took me the longest time to master
-
Date: Wed, May 1 2013 15:22:32
I always see classmates doing the Sonic, and while I was able to do a Tw. Sonic double bust, I still did not understand how the trick worked and every time I tried to pick the trick up, I failed and got frustrated. I finally got it down yesterday.
-
Date: Tue, Aug 6 2013 10:00:53
Charge took me about two days, I kept on just swinging the pen back and forth then I decided to try moving my hand a bit and it worked. TA took me a day, KTrinh93's tutorial helped me out with the proper positioning. Sonic took me a day, KTrinh helped there too. Fingerpass I still haven't perfected. >.< But I have recently learned Infinity. I wasn't using my 23 fingers until I realized it was one smooth, swift motion, then I got it.
-
Date: Tue, Aug 6 2013 11:50:29
practise practise practise practise aslo when i 1st learned a sonic and wanted to learn a tw sonic i always did a normal sonic, that was one of the hardest things for me in penspinning
-
Date: Tue, Aug 6 2013 13:39:46
i learn charge without wanting to learn it xD sonic i learned because i learn inv sonic first, i was like wat and i guess we all thought sonic was impossible :3 sonic for hardest fundy
-
Date: Thu, Aug 8 2013 08:46:36
@SwitchPalm same here. I would rage all the time when I would practice sonic. JUst spin whenever you can and for as long as possible. Don't get to envious of other spinners who can do more than you. Take it slow. Remember, EVERY AWESOME SPINNER TODAY (spinnerpeem, HAL, Menowa*, mind) THEY ALL STARTED FROM THE BASICS LIKE US!!!
-
Date: Sat, Aug 24 2013 18:49:13
For me, the charge was the hardest one to master. The most fun fundamental to do is the sonic, in my opinion! :D
-
Date: Sun, Aug 25 2013 01:00:04
Did thumb around accidentally, so googled pen tricks and now I'm here...
-
Date: Mon, Aug 26 2013 10:50:46
For me learning the thumbaround is annoying at the start. When I practicing it,the pen mostly flies away. The worst part is that sometimes it hits to my classmate's head in school, like head shot! :sniper: It took me five days to learn it and stop from making head shots.(My teacher was almost mad at me everytime) :(
-
Date: Mon, Sep 16 2013 05:59:19
Sonic reverse annoyed the hell outta me for a week. Then shadow annoyed me. I also realised that my charge motion was wrong, so I fixed that. Sonic 34-12 took a while as well.
-
Date: Tue, Oct 8 2013 19:33:37
I started with thumb aroudn and it went preety gr8. I got the hang of it really quick. But the next tricks (sonic especially) were a pain in the a.... :D But I worked at it and finally managed to learn all fundamentals :)) So everyone - just be patient, calm and keep repeting, again and again and You will get the hang of it :)) Cheers
-

It took me a while to get the non-thumbflap sonic, but now that I know it some tricks are a lot easier
-

I should have learned both charge and charge rev at the same time. I'm so used to normal that my hand won't do the reverse. :(

Had problems with TA reverse ... Still mastering the grab
-
Date: Wed, Dec 18 2013 22:51:34
i started with fingerpass rev. and charge rev. fingerpass normal (the one that starts by going towards your middle finger downwards) is a pain in the a**, the actual charge took me a while as well. I recently got TA rev., only after learning the FLTA rev. and i could do an actual TA rev right after a TA i am thinking that the IndexBak should be considered as a fundemental. the hardest trick i currently know is Flush Sonic, i love how it looks in a combo.
-
Date: Sat, Dec 28 2013 08:53:17
yup ta reverse was pretty hard, to be honest i only learnt it quite later after the twisted sonic busts and stuff like that. Not that easy
-
Date: Sun, Dec 29 2013 11:02:34
The worse fundamental to master is fingerpass
-
Date: Wed, Jan 8 2014 04:29:05
Everyone progresses at different speeds but it took me about... 1.5 months. It took me like 2-3 weeks to learn the tricks, and 1.5 months to master them.

THREAD REVIVAL but to really master a trick you gotta do it in various linkages and be able to do it without thinking. I started spinning 5 years ago and still don't have smooth finger passes

Why do people care so much about revival over a topic that is to share and tell them your time mastering a fundemental. Well it took me about 1 month, 4-6 days for TA, 1 week for Sonic, Charge about a week and fingerpass like 2 days

All fundamental mastery time: 1 month Zen

@Zen Well, I'd like to explain to the rules to you just a little because most of the people didn't read the rule and bandwagon on the reviving rule. ( here is the link just in case you want to review it again http://forum.upsb.info/showthread.php?t=6&p=151&viewfull=1#post151). So in the passage about reviving and I quote "You can still post in it if you have something new or important to add (eg: posting on an old Pens Listing thread if you discovered a new pen that is not listed there), but please do not post comments that are not necessary (eg: 'I agree', or ' ')". Did you read all that? If you did you would understand that if you have something to add that is not a retarded comment such as good. First of all, if I revive please give me 3 examples of my revives and I didn't even revive this, did you notice that? Also I like to stand up to people like yourself that want to seem high and mighty with the revival rule when in turn the are not using the rule to the importants of it. If I need to dumb it down, it is ok to revive if you have some to add or important to say. I'm not saying I support all revives, I like to follow the rules. But in theory, like I have stated before if a person doesn't post in what the rule shows as in example " a month" so the thread will become "dead" so then if I have something to add to let's say a thread about "food" if I make a new thread I'll have 10 people yelling at me for "search before you post" and then if I revive the thread I'll have 10 more people up my ass for revive which if you follow the rule, I shouldn't be yelled at but not close to annoying but fine because under the rule that people don't understand is that I should be fine and not be yelled at. So Zen if you want to fight over this rule, I can put a lot more examples, and statements. I have even PM a mod explaining this and how I find it unjust. So if you want to yell at me for reviving or "flame" which is another rule if you didn't know then go ahead I can careless. Meaning that a topic would become untouchablev I I'm absolutely furious with this topic of revival if every thread can't not touched after a month then someone needs to make changes to the rules. If I was at a computer this would be a lot longer and I could explain better but I hope you get the message. I'm not Saying I agree with milkwhale's revive but to every theses that is 3 months old and someone posts they get yelled at about it so I'm defending that.

Maybe about a few months depending on how persistent u are or u wish to jump up to the harder tricks
-
Date: Sun, Jan 19 2014 17:05:35
depends how much work you put in to it. Also if you are a fast learner. I learnt them in like 1-2 weeks.

i think so and i definitely would do my best to learn it quick .. wish me luck !
-

i think it depends on a person .....

I think I got the first four (and some reverses) in 2 weeks :)
-
Date: Sun, Mar 2 2014 03:38:23
i got them in about 1 week
-
Date: Sun, Mar 2 2014 18:02:53
it took me a long time
-

Maybe like a week or two? Depends on how much you pay your effort to practice. Some might learn almost all of fundamentals in this period of time, but are stuck with like one or two. TA Reverse took me very long to learn. Even in present time, I don't even think I do it the right way

I started during holidays, took me about 5days to get all the fund, and reverses(except charge). A few more days to get everything smooth.
-
Date: Fri, Mar 14 2014 15:57:37
November-December by December I could do erirors fundamental combo :)
-
Date: Sat, Mar 15 2014 14:55:51
I had a lot of time to penspin when I started so I learned all of the fundamentals within 5days, including reverses. The only trick I had problems with getting smooth was charge rev, that took me allmost another whole week.
-
Date: Sat, Mar 15 2014 15:09:15
Took me a month to get all of them...charge reverse and fingerpass rev were the annoying ones
-
Date: Wed, Apr 9 2014 23:45:10
In my experience it took about 3 days to 1 week to master one trick. Still that's 'cause I did nothin' but spin one trick.
-
Date: Tue, Jun 10 2014 09:48:32
Reverse charge was awfully hard, especially the part with the pointer push
-
Date: Tue, Jun 10 2014 17:37:43
it took me a really long time to do ThumbAround
-
Date: Wed, Sep 24 2014 01:21:13
It does not take four days to MASTER all the fundamentals. On average, a serious pen spinner, some high schooler that practice everyday at school and at home, can MASTER a trick in 5 to 7 days. Only the fundamental tricks though. It may take longer time to MASTER advanced tricks.

Noobs must always remember that TA rev is soooo f***ing hard to do. Probably the one trick that took me the longest time to learn. I'd say it gets a lot easier to learn tricks as you go, so the fundies are probably the hardest of all. mpc
-
Date: Wed, Sep 24 2014 11:10:14
I think the fundies take the most time to learn, beacause your hand und your muscles donn't know the movements, which is also a problem when you try the reverses because the muscle movements never have been done before. So think the fundies are the hardest to learn(maybe aside of powertricks).
-

still cant do ta
-
Date: Wed, Sep 24 2014 17:27:07
TA= Hard but doable ....TA rev=Impossible. It took a whole month to master it.
-

Shadow is hard and fluid finger pass is hard. Sonic rise was easy as with Sonic fall.
-
Date: Thu, Sep 25 2014 14:58:39
@Pen15 Dat name... Shadow isn't a fundamental trick. The 4 fundies are Fingerpass, TA, Charge and Sonic. edit: but it's important too ;)
-
Date: Thu, Sep 25 2014 16:32:37
I have always treated a shadow like a fundamental, maybe it's because it was the 3rd trick i learned when i started to pen spin.
-
Date: Thu, Sep 25 2014 19:29:03
I've always thought of baks as being pretty much fundamental. I think once you can do TA, Passes, Charge, Sonics and Baks in all slots + their reverse variations, that's when the fun starts. :) mpc
-
Date: Thu, Sep 25 2014 19:51:25
TA: 1/5 TA Reverse: 4/5 Fingerpass: 2/5 Fingerpass Smooth: 4/5 Fingerpass Reverse: Still can't do it lmao. Charge: 3/5 Charge Reverse: 4/5 Sonic: 2/5 Sonic Reverse: 3/5

Successions out of 5 attempts. However i dont see how you can count a succession for fingerpass. Is it fingerpass 12-23-34-23-12 count as one succession? -

Oh ok...@cl3ud.kr had better successions of the reverse fundamentals than the original. :D

@m1ch1 no, it's the difficulty level o_O

Been spinning for a while, got the TA's good, I can easily do Fingerpass reverse but I just cannot do the normal one, because I just sonic the "back" part. Charge and sonic is good, reverse I just can't.

Date: Fri, Oct 24 2014 06:46:59
Oh my, I can't believe I've never seen this thread. I learned TA, TA reverse, charge, and fingerpass/fingerpass reverse first. It then took me a good year to learn sonic, and a good 3 years to learn charge reverse, then 4 years to do reverse sonic. 6 years at this point, it's been quite a long time coming :O :sniper:

Charge rev was a pain<_<. I learned it only after 5 months :p

Hi guys! Just wanted to share my experience so far I started spinning in September this year. Prior to this I never had any spinning experience, except for already knowing how to do a sonic. I learnt most of my basics with a pencil. Gosh that was hard! Pencils had no weight and they slipped out of my fingers so easily coz they were so thin! Not long after that I made a "mod" out of a double capped ballpoint and some random grips. Sonic 43-32, sonic rev and TA rev were crazy hard for me coz of the width of the pencil/ballpoint. Despite that, I picked up slightly more "advanced tricks" using what I had (TW sonic bust, fake double, FLTA) I just recently received my waterfall mod from pw. I have to say, that its a totally different experience from spinning pencils/ballpoints! Everything feels smoother, and gets executed easier. I'm not experienced at all but I think the advice for beginners to start with pencils for the basics are not without reason. Now, I'm moving onto linking my tricks into combos and I feel that I want to develop a smooth, measured and flowy style of spinning. Like water bending! TL;DR - Pencils are great to start, I still suck, I like water bending my pens
