Manipulative Arts / Dice Control

One thing we have learned from spinning a pen is very fine motor skills but how can you make any money from it. I was experimenting today with controlled coin toss and after about 30 minutes I was able to toss heads fairly consistantly so I started googling around and some people can do it 100% of the time. So I thought what about controlled dice throws. Yes people can do that as well but I did not try. I don't gamble as simple math tells me its a waste of money but that got me thinking and some more googling and people can do rythymic dice throwing or controlled dice in Craps (Casino game 2 dice). If you set the dice to the same position throw the dice you can avoid getting a 7. I would have to believe with parctice and control and starting the dice at the same position then doing a controlled shake and a controlled roll and controlled bounce it would be very possible to roll any number you wanted. Has anyone tried this? does anyone do any controlled dice throwing? If you can spin a pen 10 times on the tip of an index finger then catch it you certainly should be able to roll a dice x number of times and then make it land on the number of choice.

lol isn't this stuff related with luck?

That's the point, what if you can take luck out of the equation?:hmm:

I once saw a report on this on the discovery channel. Its possible with a little practice.

lol I thought the title was dice troll. Hmm I think it's only based on luck

So after a few attempts I can roll the dice down my fingers. Depending on the length of the finger determins the number of times it rolls. Some more experimenting. It appears that it depends on the height from the table your hand is and the angular velocity of the dice (the rate you spin it) will determ the number of spins in the air. Holding my hand 10 cm above the table and starting on 6 I can roll the dice along Middle finger 2 complete turns so 6 is up again and then drop it with 1 more spin before it hits the table. Now it bounces and lands on various numbers depending on the angle it hits and the speed it rolls out of my hand the height of my hand etc (That I am not able to acuratly control yet) I think with more practice it should be possible to roll a 6 every time if the surface and all other conditions are the same and the distance and angle your hand is from the table is consistant. As for luck I believe the more you practice the luckier you will get :-) I think its like a basket ball player who can throw a ball through a hoop they can do it all day but if I tried it and it went in the hoop it would be pure luck.

its possible even in a controlled environment such as craps at a casino.

With craps at a casino, you must roll the dice along the whole length of the table and they must hit the table at the other side. Introduces too many variables given the other side of the table is rounded. -

yes but with years of experience, you can land the dice exactly at the same spot along the bumps in the side of the table get the same results with some accuracy maybe not enough to beat the house edge, but it will minimize your loss over the long run. you're not really looking to land exact numbers, but trying to avoid the 7, so it allows for limited randomness. -

I agree, but only if you can practice with the exact dice and table you would use in the casino. Casinos also use very small dice (harder to control since smaller errors in throw force and angle have greater impact) and make you throw them over a very long distance and rebound the dice off the other end of the table. It would be incredibly practice intensive. -

ideally you should become a regular at a casino that uses smaller tables of course you might lose more money during the time you practice than what you'll gain when you master it. but thats the cost of your entertainment

I reckon it would be cheaper to take a photo and get a replica made. Probably more entertaining (and cheaper) is to just learn to control your own dice and beat everyone you know at Yahztee. -

how are you going to take a photo at the casino? it'll be confiscated right away

Can't u get casino tables from stores? I dun think each casino would have their tables custom made... Just memorize it and find the same model online would do? Frog~

Of course not. You would have to get it custom built. @Zombo - Hidden camera. Hell, you could even hide a camera in a pen (how appropriate!)
