Everyone knows about the vault ... it's listed as one of the features for premium members ... we want people to know about it -

I think people are going to spam around with posts if they know that it takes 300+ posts to join the Vault now :/ just saying...

well its not like we made a big announcement about it and historically it worked fine on UPSB2, again if ppl spam to get there, its pretty obvious and their posts get deleted or their access is revoked -

thatll just make people spam even MORE >.> -

You should make a rule where your post has to be at least two sentences and no short sentences. Anything over maybe three words or more. That would get more people to post more meaningful posts rather than just spam to get a post count. Or have it so if they don't post at least two sentences it doesn't count for a post.

Lol the point of opening it up was to make people post MORE, if you restrict their posts they'll just post less -

I understand that but you will also cut the amount of spam posts. Yes people will post less but that makes nearly every post more meaningful and helpful. Rather than somebody saying "nice combo" people will be more likely to give better feedback and criticism.

the post count for over 2 sentences is a good idea but its hard to implement

As in writing code that will perform said task is not easy. -

That's what I thought it meant. And you are right. But it's worth a shot in my opinion.

PHP is pretty powerful stuff. Surely it can be one that it can get the number of characters in a post and only count it towards post count if it's > 50, for example? This isn't impossible.

it needs to written as a plugin within the framework of vbulletin for it to be maintainable over forum updates. hardcoded modifications are a pain in the ass to maintain -

It has all the sounds of a challenge!

A challenge in the middle of finals week is likely to be unconquered lol
-

Well I know in another board they do have something like a 20 or 30 character minimum for each post or the person just won't be allowed to post. I don't know if that's what you guys are getting at in terms of the code.

enforcing a min char is easy, but not the post count thing -

OH you mean only counting the posts for posts with > 2 sentences? Well honestly I think the only time you really need less than 2 sentences to post something meaninful would be spammer's box? and maybe like giveaway threads and trading and buying section. Other than that a minimum amount of characters might be useful. No real need to separate the post counts imo if that's what you're getting at. I kinda get tired of seeing people just type nice session or cool and post that. Well I've done it too a couple times haha but yeah. -

Argh shame. I read and re-read the rules to make sure I wasn't breaking them. I just though with warez allowed that this might be too. Never mind. :) -

What are warez links?

You know something... Nothing is going to change if you don't try. I know it's difficult to implement. I know it's hard to maintain. But shooting down everyone's ideas doesn't help anything. Which then makes it pointless to have a thread for comments and ideas for the board if nothing is going to change. Just saying.

well either I say the truth, which is its hard to do, or I say nothign, then ppl say I ignore them. I'd rather say the truth we dont shoot down every idea, the whole reason the Vault is now open to PS-addicts is because Mats made that Over 15 section.

Allowing access for ps-addicts has nothing to do with this. I don't mind having ps-addicts here. It's actually kind of nice having it more lively in here. The point is that you don't try. I don't mean to sound rude. I would just appreciate it if you showed some effort. Basically just telling me it is hard is not good enough. Now if you told me (without lying) that you have tried it and it didn't work the way you thought so you set it back to where it was, I would feel so much better knowing you at least tried. All I'm saying is show some effort.

Sorry, but it doesn't make sense to try every single idea/suggestion people have. We CONSIDER every idea/suggestion, take into consideration the pros and cons, and then make a decision. You've made this suggestion about 3 times in the past 3 months, we've considered it every time, and decided that the cons outweighed the pros. If you think that's us being lazy then you're entitled to that opinion, but it's not laziness it's just common sense. You don't try every suggestion you get, that'd be absurd That being said, the major con with this suggestion is that someone would have to spend lots of hours developing PHP code for somethign they really dont even want to try ... so if you were willing to develop the php code for us then the pros would probably outweigh the cons. We mods put in hours every day to maintaining this board, and for you to attack us because we don't want to spend MORE hours developing a difficult code because one member wants it is unfair. Feel free to develop it yourself and we'll try it. -

"considering" it is not trying it. And the number of hours you say it will take is nothing compared to the hours you have already put into it. What's a few more? I'm sorry that's just the way it is I guess.

Then feel free to do it yourself, just because we're mods doesn't mean we have to write the code. Don't accuse others if you're not even willing to do it. -

you said we shoot down every idea, I give an example of an idea that was not shot down -> allowing access to PS addicts also I didn't say we're not gonna try it. I said "it's hard to implement". I didn't say we're not gonna do it. Good ideas are put on the todo list, bad ideas are rejected, and we move on. It's a good idea, so it's put on the todo list. -

It's the kind of stupid code you could spend literally spend a week on and still not have working. -

i cant see it improving anything... posts will change from "lol noob" which wont up post count to "lol noob lolololololo banananananananan lololololol spamspamspamspam omnomnomnomnomnomnom lololololol" which does increase post count =\

At least the latter takes more effort. :thumb:
