Based on what you said you're going to be using it for, I really doubt you need 1k+ laptops. and both of them are also reallyyyy overpriced after looking at their specs. Unless it's light weight is something that you absolutely need, I'd recommend getting something like this instead, it's a lot cheaper and it's capable of doing a lot more than those 2 laptops you posted http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=Category&v1=High+performance&series_name=dv6tqe_series&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp/hhoslp/psg/notebooks/High_performance/dv6tqe_series If you're only considering those 2 laptops, i'd choose the toshiba

LOLOLOL. PC dude. Macs are boring. I'm an iPod user but to show my hate, I jailbroke it and tweaked it to death. :P

i made a handy chart for you comparing your 2 laptops with other ultrathin laptops, along with 2 of my recommendations at the end since i highly recommend not paying an extra $500 for 2 less pounds to carry https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsIPIMorxaHWdDFCTHRSaFZsczJBRGtEZVlhcDVDRXc again, if you're only considering the 2 laptops you've posted, i'd go with the toshiba. it has a longer battery life, weighs less, has usb 3.0 and is cheaper compared to the macbook air IMO though, you should look at price for performance, rather than it being ultra thin

If you really need to run i7 on those... Edit: @Loanshark: I find the X220 more appealing than the X1.
