Welcome to UPSB's first Starcraft II Tournament! This is going to be an open tournament where players of all leagues and skills are welcome to join. Failure to submit results [B]AND[/B] replays will result in a loss [B]for the both of you.[/B] Results will be posted as I receive them. Remember to PM the results to me here on UPSB. Join channel upsb if you're online so that you can practice/play matches. ___________________________________________________________________ Basics This tournament starts with a [B]group stage[/B], followed by a [B]single elimination[/B] knockout. [B]All[/B] matches are a best-of-three. After the three rounds, the top 2 players in each group will proceed to a knockout. From there, the remaining 3 players will play for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Map Pool -(2) Crossfire SE -(2) Dual Sight -(2) Xel'Naga Caverns -(3) ICCup Testbug -(4) Crevasse -(4) Metalopolis -(4) Shakuras Plateau -(4) Shattered Temple -(4) Tal'Darim Altar -(4) Terminus SE - The player with the lower league rank will determine the first map to play, followed by the higher-ranked player, followed by the lower league player again. If both players are the same league, the player with the more ladder points will be considered the higher rank. Results The winner of each match [B]MUST[/B] PM me with the results of the match (3-0, 2-1, etc.) AND include the replays of all 3 games. Without the replays, your win will not count. I think it's best just to keep it at diamond. The whole purpose of saying leagues is to give other members an overview of what the competition is like, so saying your NA league would be best. This goes for any other prospective players. If you own more than 1 account, post the league of your NA account. Remember that a plat in korea is completely different from a plat in NA -

Hi. I doubt many people remember me (maybe Pen Ninja cause we both live in WA) but I was Tim on UPSBv3 and UCPSB. I never registered when the new forum came online cause I was pretty inactive at the end of UPSBv3 but I come on every now and then mainly for the SC2 thread. I'd like to participate if that's alright. GuardMan.822 Platinum Zerg I don't mind off-racing if that's the go (I doubt I'm nearly as good as the diamond players though, might take a game off them if I'm lucky). Probably silver protoss and terran at best. EDIT: 822 is the character code of my SEA account. I believe it would be the same for my NA account but I'm not 100% sure.

AFAIK, generally tournament rules say you need to pick a race and stick to it the whole tourney.... the reasons for this are fairly clear, so you cant pick and choose a race to beat a certain player with and to stop situations where someone says... im gonna go T is he's P, P if he's Z and Z if he's T... and their opponent says the same all of a sudden, 1 player goes P, then the other goes T, so the 1st changes to Z, so the 2nd changes to P... etc http://www.google.com.au/search?q=sc2+tournament+change+race&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a most of these come back with some sort of "you may not change your race once the tournament starts" or similar -

Yeah....all I know is that @Ricercar, it seems kinda meh to play your diamond races is me and Penja are playing our off/weaker races. If you won't change your mind I guess I'll have to play my Diamond Toss, but I think it'd be more fun to play our races that are around the same level as the other guys.

lol believe it or not, but Zerg is actually my worst race. even though I'm a gold level player, i chose my worst race anyway "Why?" you ask? well zerg is the race i really want to learn well and i find it the most fun and challenging race to play out of the three. If i wanted to try to win the tournament, i would've picked toss since its the race i'm strongest at, but it's not that fun to me. this is just a fun and laid-back tournament, nothing serious lol if i manage to pull a win against iota when he plays toss, it's not going to change the fact that i still believe he's a much stronger player than me. he's diamond and i'm gold. those are facts lol the point i'm trying to make is that it doesnt matter at all whether you win or lose. don't feel discouraged to join the tourney because you're afraid you're going to lose. my whole purpose for creating this tourney isnt to see who's the best sc2 player here; i already have a general idea who's the best sc2 player here. the reason why i created this tourney is because i wanted members of upsb to connect to each other through a platform other than pen spinning just to have fun and have a great time as a community. if you want to play your best/worst race, go ahead. no one is stopping you. just dont be a dick and brag about the fact that you one. the whole point was to have fun, no one should care whether they win or lose

I should say that I haven't yet found any actual way of actually dealing with collossi. If anyone says corruptors they will be shot. I don't want to start a balance argument.

Actually, if you play it out right roach hydra corruptor works just fine. You have to do what the koreans have been doing lately and in the past MLG(s) though, which is to make sure to deny a third and at times trade corruptors/army to keep colossi count down. If toss gets maxed with the whole mostly colossi stalker ball, you can't fight it with corruptor/roach/hydra. You have to use that composition for the midgame-size armies really, and thus focus on keeping the toss from a huge deathball. If you want other ways to handle it once toss is actually maxed, those will continue to develop as it's a young patch, but as Day[9] has said will revolve around zerg not just trying to make units and attack the deathball directly; things likely involving other harass or pressure exploiting the slow nature of colossi if that's what they go for, e.g. nydusing expos or doing other forms of harass/drops. Also, it doesn't take 10x more skill from Z. In the end you aren't doing amazing super apm intensive micro to win every battle you win, you're mostly 1a-ing just like the toss is, minus the blink micro FF and colossi positioning. You instead might have only to spread a concave before the fight, or to focus fire colossi with corruptors. Neither are hard. Your macro mechanics aren't that much harder, and it doesn't take worlds more skill from Z to beat P at all, it just takes approaching the fight/game from a different mentality than one maxed cost-effective army bashing heads with another maxed cost-effective army. You used to be able to do that with Destiny's ling infestor and lategame infestor broodlord style, but due to the neural nerf that can't handle colossi really anymore. No, I'm not "starting a balance argument" btw, just pointing some things out to you. -
