UPSB v4

Board Help / What is an Infraction?

This is something new that v4 has that v3 never had. First off, every time you break a rule (in the forum or shoutbox), you will receive a PM from the moderator or administrator that gives you an infraction. This way, you'll know why you got an infraction. Also, all your infractions are listed publicly in a tab in your profile (which makes this different from the warnings from v3, which were only viewable by mods/admins). Infractions are temporary, and their durations last depending on the offense made. While some infractions last only 3 months, others may last 6 months or more. After that time is up, that infraction will automatically disappear -- it's like a reward for good behavior. But if you collect up many infractions (or points, where 1 infraction = 1 point) in a short period of time, then you will be reviewed and considered for a ban. ------------------------------------------------------------- Shoutbox bans and warnings are still in place. Some people may try getting away with breaking a rule by dealing with a shoutbox ban for a week, but that now may be accompanied by an infraction -- something that will last much longer compared to a shoutbox ban. I hope this answers any questions regarding how infractions work. Post any further questions in this thread.

  3. Zombo
    Date: Thu, Jul 8 2010 22:50:04

well how long for example posting a big emote?

it's up to the discretion of the person who issued the ban, and what the mod thought of a person's previous actions if a person broke rules in the past, the shoutbox ban will more likely be longer than a first time offender and then it also depends on the situation that the mod saw, which could affect the ban length that they decide as well so even a first time offender mayy get a long ban -- really it just all depends on the situation

Regarding Shoutbox, when someone reports another person's 'shout' on the 'shoutbox' what does that report look to you guys as Mods? Do you only see that one shout and you judge it from that?

    Date: Fri, Jul 9 2010 01:42:07

its not really new, it basically replaces the Warning system

yes, we'll see the shout and the person doing the reporting will submit a reason for the report, which we will see as well

ok, that makes sense. The thing I was worried about was that you guys might judge reports out of context from the whole conversation.

Let's say someone reports a shout. Why is the infraction then set at three months (which is, what I consider, kind of extreme) if it only happened once?

  17. Zombo
    Date: Fri, Jul 9 2010 04:49:05

3 months is just the time the infraction stays in the record, after that its wiped out in upsb v3, warnings stayed forever until a mod cleaned them out.

Is there a reason for having Infractions publicly displayed?

  21. Zombo
    Date: Fri, Jul 9 2010 21:08:39

you can view your own infractions, not others

  22. JC
    Date: Fri, Jul 9 2010 21:39:26

it helps yourself keep track of how many infractions you have

So how many 'points' normally lead to a ban?

  26. strat1227
    Date: Fri, Dec 17 2010 23:59:50

    5 active infractions = 7-day ban

  27. Wind

So long is the ban if I only have one infraction from posting a large emote on the SB?

Wind wrote: So long is the ban if I only have one infraction from posting a large emote on the SB?
you wont get banned for one infraction

  29. Wind
    Date: Sat, Dec 18 2010 17:55:02

Then mind unbanning me from the SB?

  30. Zombo
    Date: Sat, Dec 18 2010 23:29:52

the infraction system leads to forum bans. shoutbox bans are handled seperately. you have to ask the mod who banned you in the first place
