soo im building a computer once again. i already asked penwish for help and he recommended a cheap build for me, i just wanted to put it up for discussion before i make the purchase, which will be within the next coupled days so basically im looking for a good solid build under or around $500 that i can still play decent games with, but can adequately upgrade later without too much hassle. Case and PSU open to suggestion (well everything is) RAM there was a rebate on that, i think it's gone now..? could use another deal like that D: it was $23 HDD Motherboard and CPU this is the cpu i wanted, but i really dont know anything about motherboards so yeah. what do you guys think

I'm pretty sure I've suggested this before, but this is a pretty cheap, pre-built computer. It may be a bit slower than what you're putting together, but it's definitely a lot cheaper.

The case and PSU is fine. RAM - Get it while you can: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148418&cm_sp=Cat_Memory-_-Daily_Deal-_-20-148-418 If you wanna save a few $$ you can get the AMD X6 (comparable to the i5 line) combo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.679662 That's $294 with a $10 rebate later which makes it $284 overall. The MSI board reviews out really good and it has some additional stuff in the back (extra USB's etc.) The hard-drive is fine (I swear by Western Digital, but hey that's just me.) DVD burners are only like $20 around the board where-ever you look. CASE: Antec 300 PSU: 430w OEM ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129065 ) CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition 3.2ghz ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.679662 ) MOBO: MSI 890GXM-G65 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.679662 ) RAM: Crucial 4GB DDR3 (1333) CAS 9 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148418&cm_sp=Cat_Memory-_-Daily_Deal-_-20-148-418 ) HDD: Samsung Spinpoint 1TB ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185 ) DVD: DVD+RW ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106289 ) $491.90 I'd just save up for a decent graphics cards later. The onboard won't be too bad for the time being. @Shadowserpant

@iMatt IIRC, he said he origianlly built his build around the i5, and was opting to use an i5 in his build

Well aware. I was just making a different suggestion to save a few extra $$ and to get a better motherboard.

RAM is on sale at fry's at least once a week. Keep checking the LA Times ad. I think i once saw 8 gb for 30ish after rebate.

Ram is pretty cheap these days, but I would get it before prices start going up. Also, the difference between 5400 and 7200 rpm hard drives are overated imo, and unless you're doing some pretty specific tasks you probably wont notice a difference ( may be able to save some money ) When it comes to playing games your graphics card is probably going to be the bottleneck anyways, save money where you can so you can get a decent chip.

._.? but i've only built one xD @iMatt now that you've brought it up i'm actually learning towards the AMD. I never really thought about it just because im used to intel being the standard, but are there any real performance concerns for AMDs? Is there any real reason i shouldn't get it instead of an intel? im probably buying everything tonight or tomorrow edit: amd is looking pretty perfect so far :/

Get AMD, got my work to get AMD. Built 7n ysytems. Under 400 each, very decent. Skimped on graphics card btu still had dedicated GF cards.... FUCK ATI. 4gb fast ddr3. Most are quad cores. Got b55 black editions, most unlocked other 2 cores no problem. only 1 is a duel core. Fuck yeah, Jam of this year.

Yeah that'd be a solid build. No arguing there. it's a few $$ extra, but it snags you a nicer case/power supply
