I'm getting an xbox360 that is red ring of deathed for $33. Its missing av/hdmi cords and power cord. So 1) where should I buy a power cord and av cords and 2) I can send it to Microsoft and they will send me a new one/repair it for free, right? Also, I think its missing a hard drive, so do I need one and if so, where should I get one?

Pretty sure MS only repairs/replaces if warranty is still up and you have the receipt.

well you can send to microsoft but you will have to call them to change the email that the serial number will be registered as, then you will send it in and it will come back in 2-3 weeks, i would say gamestop is a good place to buy the cords and hard drive, and i think microsoft can supply them aswell if you need to buy them

Actually you dont need the warranty and you dont need the receipt, you just need the serial number of the xbox still there and you can send it in for free, i recently sent mine in when it had an expired warranty and i didnt have to pay anything

Nice. So a all I have to do is call them, change the email that is linked to the serial number, and then send it in? Is there like a page on their website telling me what to do/where to send it in?

oh you have to go on the website http://www.xbox.com/support and check if the console is even registered yet, so sign in with any hotmail account and try to register the serial number with your address, if it says the console is already registered, call 1-800-4myxbox and get a customer support person to change the email that is linked and then they will send you a shipping label to tape onto the box you will be shipping the xbox to

seems like a shady deal, don't know if I would do it unless I can repair it myself

The guy who owns it is my driver's ed teacher and a friend of mine. If it doesn't work, it's only 33 bucks and I'll have parts.

1.) Check to see if the Console is still in warranty or registered: http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/RepairLanding.aspx?redirectUrl=http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/registerdevice.aspx?step=repair If Yes, then just go through the support to send in your console. If No, you can buy DIY kits to repair RRoD's, but it's definitely not a beginners chore if you're not used to disassembling electronics. There's tons of private businesses that'll repair RRoD as well. 2.) Regarding Accessories such as the cables/hdd 1.) 250 GB HDD: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.30827 (I buy shit all the time from dealextreme, it'll take 1.5 weeks to get there, but in exchange for dirt cheap prices) 2.) Power Supply: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.24941 3.) A/V Cable: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.32489 (If HDMI there's a million different places you can get an HDMI cable) 4.) Controller: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Controller-Black/dp/B000OYITQO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278440814&sr=8-1 ================================== All in all it'll be about $65.00-$75.00 to get the remaining parts. Which is not bad for $100-$110.... However you can get a brand new 360 Arcade Bundle without a hdd (you can just use a Flash drive as a hard-drive on it) for $130.00 on Target.com: http://tinyurl.com/2ffr6cf

$33 is expensive for a broken xbox, I think on eBay you can get for $20

There's the chance though that the xbox might be banned from online though because it was hacked. Right? @imatt, thanks. That was a ton of help. However, 3 things. 1, do you think that I could jet go with a 20 gb hard drive instead of 250? 250 seems like would never fill that up. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.30830 Also, how can I check which cables to buy? And finally, I've found a cheaper power supply here http://www.amazon.com/gp/offerlisting/B000PT18OS/sr=/qid=/ref=olp_tab_used?ie=UTF8&coliid=&me=&qid=&sr=&seller=&colid=&condition=used So would that be better? I think that is all for now. Thanks for the help so far, guys.

Yeah the Xbox could be modded/banned for w/e reason. That's the risk of buying used right now 1.) Oh yeah you can do that. Trust me you can fill up these HDD's insanely quick. Plus GB to $$ Ratio is much better for a 250. 2.) Look on your TV/Monitor you're going to use standard Composite(RedWhiteYellow)/Component(Red/Green/blue)/HDMI/VGA If you need composite/component, get the standard AV cable I posted for you. If HDMI, get an HDMI cord. VGA is only if you use a computer monitor. 3.) I wouldn't recommend that. You want to get the new 203w power supplies. The older ones can cause GPU(Video Throttling) The one I recommended is the correct PSU you'll need.

Imatt's right..those HD's fill so quickly it isnt even funny. I have like..3 games that i play, and I have that Halo 3 20g HDD. I have 0.8 gigs left >_> still..why would you spend money on a broken xbox? Id rather buy a used one that still works :\

Alright: update! I am going to buy the xbox, but I have to earn the money to buy it... I'm not allowed to just take it out of my bank account  Is it possible just to use a normal external hard drive instead of buying one made for xbox? Secondly, whenever I send in the xbox do I need to send in the power cord ans hard drive? I seriously hope this thing is still under warranty. Paying 99 dollars for repair is ridiculous.
