I know some ps1 games, well most, can be played on a ps2. I bought final fantasy VII and it will start up on my ps2 but I can't play it because the controller won't work. Do I need a ps1 controller in order to play a ps1 game on a ps2? ~KTSpinner~

the ps1 doesn't have analog sticks, therefore i assume that you'ld have to play with the d-pad. if its some other issues, like the X button not working, then i dont know how to help you

I dont think this is serious discussion though, nevermind. You need a ps1 controller to play ;)

I think you might have to turn the analog function off, try hitting the button in the middle. If that doesn't work IDK then.

ps1 ctrllers work on ps2 ps2 ctrllers work on ps1 it just that if there are games in ps1 that DOESNT support analog sticks, the analog sticks wont be used then and if you play ps2 games that NEEDS analog sticks, then if you're using non-analog stick ps1 ctrllers, you're screwed =P PrinceXD

That's the thing. There is nothing wrong with the controller. I am playing a game right now with the controller. That's why I was asking if the ps1 game needed a ps1 controller because that's the only ps1 game I have and that is the only game the ps2 controller won't work for. ~KTSpinner~

That worked. Thank you. Another question though. I wasn't able to save. Do I need a ps1 memory card in order to save on ff vii? ~KTSpinner~

I had the same problem when playing some of my old favourite PS1 games on the PS2, like Hogs of War. My frustration when trying to save for the first time was quite big. :D

Really? Haha Marc gets frustrated at something like that? Haha nice. I didn't. I just shut it off and went back to one of my other games. :p ~KTSpinner~

When I play a game I want to complete it, and if I have to restart from scratch after coming quite a way... Meh. :P

why not using something like ePSXe and play on computer? you can even connect a PS3 ctrller and make it work on PS1 games, if you do the thing above. eliminates finding PS1 card, ctrller problem.. and old PS consoles dying in long-hours of gameplay. PrinceXD

Because playing ROMs doesn't give the same nostalgic feeling. :)

That, I don't understand Marc. Why would you play a game through a long way if you know you can't save? I shut it off at the first save if I find out it won't save. ~KTSpinner~

Because the first time I didn't actually realise I couldn't save, and I never saved beforehand because there aren't actually checkpoints or anything, you just press start and "Save Game". >.> And meh. Forgot to try to save earlier.
