I decided to host a tournament to motivate some of us to 'up' our spinning. Plus, it would be pretty fun. Please join only if you think you can make a commitment to film. Otherwise, it would only create problems for me. Date will be decided once everyone has joined. I am not really strict on this. -Any pen can be used. -10 seconds < Video length < 30 seconds -I will wait 24 hours after the due date for video submission. Otherwise it will count as a loss. - Video submission must be through YOUTUBE. I will create a playlist so that it is easy access for the judges. Either pm me the link or post it here with a mention to my name so that I don't miss it. In your vid, you gotta state who your opponent is either in the title or in the description.[/SPOILER] [SPOILER="Judges"] Judge #1: Fang Judge #2: Hippo2626 Judge #3: Shoeman6 Judge #4: Pen Ninja Judge #5 : HoiBoy [/SPOILER] [SPOILER="Judging Method"] Videos will be due in 2 weeks. Judging will be for 1 week. Results will be posted at the end of the week. At which the point, the spinners who advanced will have 2 weeks to submit combo for the next round. Points will be totalled and averaged.[/SPOILER] [SPOILER="Judging Criteria"] The judging criteria is as follows: 40 points total. /10 for Execution. Smoothness and Control of the pen /10 for Difficulty. /10 for Creativity. /10 for Appeal. [/SPOILER] THERE ARE 24 CONTESTANTS SO THE FINALS WILL BE A THREE WAY BATTLE. 1st PLACE RECEIVES A PRIZE. Sure. @Van Don't worry about drake too much. The match is decided on points, not votes. For all you know, your creativity or smoothness might be higher than his. Besides, you don't even know if ur going to face him or not. Just think of it as a challenge and accept it. You will be much better off as a spinner that way.

I need to know the format first. Can I have details like the expected duration, how the tourny will be runned (whether it's a 2 weeks to film and 1 weeks to judge type thing) and stuff like that to get a rough idea before I can agree. Sorry.

(given WT accepts 10 seconds or above, PSL was 15 seconds+, and WC tags are at least 15 seconds too iirc), but it's up to you ofc @Hex

Honestly there is more to a combo than a break down and the judges don't need a break down, honestly. Do you guys think my left hand is too good for this tourney?? I think the judge system is the best if we do all the matches, that is not alot..... I've been judging the WT, I mean, THAT was alot of judge work! just use the WT judge rating for this tournament. @Xienix of course you'll lose from twine, almost everybody will, but I would have lose from almost all.... <_<

well if we do it this way, then the whole tourney will last about 12 weeks whic is about 3 months. Since this is a summer tourney, (summer lastas 2 monts) I think we should shorten the vides due period and judges period by half a week each. The total would be 9 weeks which is more aoround 2 months. @Hex, you can keep this format if you want. and is this by elimination or the loosers vs the loosers

@Hex couple of questions and suggestions I think u should have an odd number of judges. (3 or 5), cuz having 4 means a chance of a tie And for the "two weeks thing" I did the same thing for the beginners tournament, where a spinner got 2 weeks to film, then a week of judging. Little question here. Is it two weeks of filming, then a week of judging, THEN another 2 week? Or 1 week including the judging time period as one of the weeks for 2nd round and so on? Basically I'm asking is it 3 weeks per match (2weekz film+1 week judge) OR 2 weeks (from round 2; judging time of R1+ another week)?

all spinners have mreo than 1 mod taht is partcipating in this tournament well a spinner can have different styles wit hdifferent mods and can be used to different mods. So its just fro teh experience and development of spinners, because winnign is not everything. Its the experience. Its just an idea, but if you dont want to use it, im fine with it -

well, ill leave it up to the spinner. For that reason, i put "all mods can be used" If a spinner wants to practice a different style it would be up to the spinner otherwise, there shouldn't be a penalty.

@Hex about the criteria... I think execution and smoothness should be different, cuz IMO they're completely different... And Appeal? If this means if the combo was "appealing" or not, this would completely be based on one's likes, Like I don't like power tricks, so I don't find this combo apealing, so I give more points to this body environment combo etc. So I think u shouldn't have anything that has to do with one's favor, so have Smoothness Difficulty Execution(in-cam combo+control?) Creativity (not sure about this either cuz I dont really understand how a combo can be "creative" unless it's like body-environment)

smoothness is a part of execution, so no need for 2 categories when one encompasses the other just 'borrow' WT11 categories - execution, difficulty, creativity and presentation edit: appeal is basically same thing as presentation, dw.

i dont mean to flame or sound arrogant or anything but some of these results were a bit surprising, especially my battle vs elune. i respect the judges decision and accept defeat but i broke down both my combo and his to the best of my ability and tried to compare them elunes: inv sonic .5 23-13 > sonic .5 > pass 13-34 > neosonic harmonic 34-t3-34 > inv rev warped sonic 34-23 > twisted sonic > flick > inv rev twisted sonic 23-34 > pinkybak > neosonic 34-tf > tf charge rev > fl ta rev *2 > inv rev twisted sonic 12-23 > rev twisted sonic 23-34 > ra > rev warped sonic 34-23 > pass 23-34 > neosonic harmonic 34-t3-34 > inv rev warped sonic 34-23 > ma > pass 23-12 > bak rev > aerial hai tua mine: twisted sonic 23-12 > triangle pass > ta t1-34 > twisted sonic 34-t3 > pass rev t3-34 > inv rev warped sonic 34-13 > shadow 13-23 > pass rev 23-34 > inv rev warped sonic 34-23 > fl charge rev .5 (?) 23 > charge .5 23 > pass 23-34 > pinkybak 1.5 to fl ta rev > inv rev twisted sonic 12-23 > pass 23-12 > ta > index spread > catch 12 > rev twisted sonic 12-24 > pass 24-12 > wiper rev > pass rev 12-23 > charge rev 23 > fl charge rev (?) > fingerswitch 23-t2 > wiper normal t2 charge rev t2 > neosonic rev t2-23 > sonic rev .5 23-24 > pass 24-12 > wiper rev 12 > wiper t1 > ta > fl ta > index spread > fl ta *2 execution wise, i feel my combo and elunes were about the same. i dont think there were really any pauses or anything and both seemed smooth. however, elunes score for execution averaged a 7.6 and mine was a 6, which is quite a difference. for difficulty the only real difficult things in elunes combo were the fl ta rev *2 and the aerial hai tua. the most difficult things in my combo were the pinkybak 1.5 ~ fl ta rev, the ta release (which makes the linkages after it much more difficult), and the finisher, ta > fl ta release > fl ta *2 which i find more difficult than anything in elunes combo. elune scored an average of 5.2 for difficulty, and i had 4.8 oh and btw i think he spun a kt while i spun mx creativity wise, almost all of elunes linkages are stock linkages... i mean its really mostly twisted sonic variations and a few arounds. im sure ive seen all of them before at some time. most of my linkages ive never seen anyone use before, which i would think would give me a higher creativity score than i got which was only 4. elunes was 3. this was the only category i had the higher average in i think the biggest problem i find here is the aesthetics category... its kind of vague and subjective. i thought it was mostly having a good camera, angle, and lighting, etc. which i think elune and i both have, but his score average 7.1 and mine was 5.8. i guess that extra 1.3 points is for long fingernails??? anyway this post is way too long, i know, and again i dont intend to insult anyone or flame or anything. i accept this defeat and the judges decision. mostly i just want to know what i did wrong and that elune did right so that i could do better. thanks

@askdafudgecicle 1) I will double check the formulas for ALL of the spreadsheet. I already checked it a couple of times before sending it to the judges. Upon double checking. Everything is correct. 2) The appeal category is the visual appeal and style of the combo. This includes anything from camera angle, structure of the combo, linkages and appearance of the pen and hands (and to a lesser extent, the body as a whole). This was taken directly from wt rules. The judges were confused about this as well but this is what they marked it on. pls do note that this is a 2years tourney. The combo level should be high to get high points. I learnt the hard way. Rest of it is up to the judges.

1. fair point about the reliability, but this has never been done in PS in major competition (even though PSH judging in WT gave many spinners <12 marks or so), and judging just has to be consistent across all spinners, but not necessarily consistent for the one spinner (the score itself does not mean anything, it only means something when compared with scores of other opponents) 2. my point range is larger because my points are larger :P and also because the 'nature' of my spinning lends itself to different perceptions (the value people place on 'hard tricks' varies quite a bit in UPSB community) edit: removing the largest and smallest results changes my final score by under 1.0 marks anyway, it doesn't do much - the largest and smallest scores balance each other out and don't do much to the average -

well this is my style. i find it appealing, not everyone will and thats fine. i happen to like the effect the hand movements have on the first half of the combo. someone like pyralux or snow moves their hands a lot, often unnecessarily, and its appealing, although i cant really compare myself to either of them... i moved my hand less halfway through the combo to add contrast to the beginning section, on purpose, and not to try to smooth it out. also, you said i won with difficulty, fair enough, but i actually didn't... anyway im spinning for myself mostly. if i really wanted to impress people maybe i wouldntve held back as much as i did. -

this is fucking hilarious i got lower score in R2 with a combo superior in all respects to my R1 except lighting was a bit worse? HAHA. i'd rant more, but i can't be bothered. somehow, i knew this would happen... lulz i'm through with making 'my best' combos for any tourney/battle, it seems shitty freestyles fare far better. congrats enterthedarkrealm, and screw the lazy judges who didn't submit despite being given nearly an extra week. if you were occupied entirely for the whole week by a task of utmost importance that you couldn't even spare 1 or 2 hours, fair enough :P edit: and yes, i am bitter. but i have lost, and that is that. enterthedarkrealm's combo was better, i agree; and comparing scores between rounds is usually a bad idea in any tournament...but still =__=

People need to make sure in who they are picking to judge, have they judged before, how active are they? Also, the easier you make it for the judges to judge the more likely they will, sooner.
