Pen Modifications / What Has Pen Modding Do To Your Life?

Sorry if this thread is already posted or posted in the wrong spot, but what has pen modding/spinning do to your life? Like, before... after... To me, at first, I wanted to throw away a lot of my pens (yes, my Miffys and Melanies, and my 3000*f, Dr. Grip, and stuff), but now, I know how to actually use them to make these pen mods. What are your stories?

I used to take pens apart and put them back together even before i knew about spinning and modding. Now I look at every pen I see and take it apart to see what I can use for a new mod. I just wish I had the $ to get a lot of parts for mods. But I feel nothing every time I take apart a new pen that I could actually write with at school.

Pen modding is kind of a gateway into actually modding. I modded pens because I liked the process of creating something purely your own. However it expanded me into working on smaller electronics and not being afraid to rip something open.

I have bags full of pens I took apart from my house. Half the pens I dont use for mods have subbed grips because I took the original ones. Metal tips suddenly disappear from good pens. You know... but ive only spent like $5 on pens, so I cant argue there, lol

Before: i used to not care about pens what so ever except the way they wrote. like a Profile writes so smooth on paper and an RSVP writes sharp on paper. i could careless about the grips, tips and caps and what have you. it was all worthless to me. it was atleast. lol. like id see a pen walk by and not once think "That could be useful" Now: pretty much the exact opposite. i pass a Profile on my friends desk or i see one in his back pack... booom gone. teachers RSVP? gone and gripless with no cap. lol. Pens started to disappear in my house. abuncha pens in my desk became something i liked. Modding has helped me steady my hands a little. i love modding cuz its creative and you use your mind. i love math and to me Modding is like math. one part goes here, but this wont fit adjust it alittle. lol. its fun spinning has given me more of an oppurtunity to meet new people.. all in all its a BIG PLUS!!

I agree I dont know much about spinning mods (like grip cuts are still an amazing mystery) but its an interesting challenge because its so many different things, like, 1. miniaturization 2. lightweight 3. C.G. balance 4. spinning momentum 5. strong against drops on hard surface like a computer modder, they do really cool stuff, but what is the challenge - you have lots of room and lots of power and lots of money to do crazy things. car modders - everyone makes the aftermarket parts and you're just buying shit to put into your car, building up a "unique" ride is more like just tacking on everything you can afford. nobody does a gripcut on a hood LOL. pen modding is cheap so its approachable for everyone, and originality is more important than overall quality, so its cool to see so many people that are young and have good ideas and lots of motivation to make something new. I love pen modding!!!

Modding has cut my hands a few times, thanks to grip cutting. It's also rubbed my hands raw, from trying to pull or push grips onto a REALLY tight body, my hands go numb after a while and then I end up just de-modding the whole thing I killed my hands making.

I´ve spent money that I could use on other things now, but I don´t regret it, because penmodding was and still is a very funny and entertaining thing for me. Also, if I enter a store and there´s a pen divison I often recognise pens I use for modding. Yeah, thats quite it. Oh and ofc, I like the designing part of it, like creating something unique.

Sooo many small pieces of pen, and a few pairs of side cutters, pliers etc. Trying to buy exacto knife, and more pens, but my parents are avoiding officeworks. I used to just tape some cheap pencils together but now it has gotten way more sophisticated. From the starting point I eventually built up until I got to the advanced stuff. But yes, much like the other people I now look at a pen as more than a simple writing instrument but as a small piece of a greater object.:ninja:
