I made a Photoshop thread for a reason, but noooo make your own thread.
-
Date: Sun, Oct 24 2010 03:01:53
Because this thread is about photography, not photoshop?

Yeah, but this thread is about the photographs themselves. The postprocessing is irrelevant.

Well it depends on your price range. I use a Pentax K-x, an entry-level dSLR, which although I haven't had it very long, I'm very satisfied with. It cost me around $500. If you want a point&shoot, the one I have is a Canon Powershot A590. It's a bit bulky, but at the time I got it it was pretty much the best I could get for under $200. By now I'm sure there's probably better.

I've been shooting for about a month a lil more or so. I own a Nikon D3000 with the kit lens (Nikon DX AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G) As well as a macro lens (52mm Sigma AF Macro 1:2.8) A $20 Bower fisheye lens (AF 0.42X58mm superwide angle) And jah. I'm not uber savvy with the lens stuff and so.... I'm still learning Here's some of my pics:

My terrible attempt at a tilt photograph, I recently got one of my mom's old camera's and wanted to start shooting with it. I took it out the other day and only had enough battery to take 1 picture... this was it. I'm thinking about cropping the water bit though. So this is my first actual photo :D

Not my picture (obviously) , but I feel that this picture has a lot of things done right. A subtle 'watermark' , proper environment , the lighting..plus the car is pretty dope.

watermarks are not necessarily a bad thing, but they are never, ever a good thing. The background is distracting, the reflections on the car are distracting, there are ugly-ass people in the back, and the composition is completely static, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but certainly doesn't work for a picture of a car. -

@Tetsip how do you add the effect where the farther away scenery/objects are more blurred? Anyway...

walrus wrote: @Tetsip how do you add the effect where the farther away scenery/objects are more blurred?
That's called "depth of field." It's the part of the photo which is within acceptable focus. It's affected by aperture, distance from the plain of focus, lens focal length, and size of the sensor. Most of your average point-and-shoot cameras' sensors are too small to get a small DOF without getting very close. Titslip is shooting with a DSLR, which has a much bigger sensor, and so makes it much easier to get a small DOF. -
Date: Mon, Aug 1 2011 18:38:43
It's way easier to just do it in post-production with a soft focus though. You can physically give that effect by messing with DSLR lenses or you can' just post-produce it. Even my "photoshop mobile" app on my phone can do it, pretty simple edit

That's not what I was getting at... The hexagonal shape of the blur just looked like a blur filter added in photoshop, so I was like ._. -
