Okay then, I don't purposefully train towards anything. MY body is the only positive thing about my genetics.

I don't think its the same, since the top person, David Beckham I think, only scored ~21. It's when you run from point A to B before the beep goes off. The catch is, you can't stop, and the duration of the beep shortens every time. So it'll be like Beep.......... Beep......Beep....Beep...Beep..Beep.BeepBeep. You get the point. Back on topic: No one can beat this BAMF at pull ups.

To you guys talking about the pacer. I think Hoiboy is talking about 83 laps while the other guy is talking about 15 levels. Remember every few laps or runs or beeps or whatever, the pace gets a bit faster.

@Tetsip 20~50 elevated push ups and 60 crunches only? isnt that too few for kung fu? dont bruce lee, jackie chan, and jet li and other kung fu fighters do like 1000 push ups a day, 1000 crunches, or something like that or something...jet li i think trained that hard even when he was like 15...i cant do 50 elevated push ups but just sayin..lol

35. Tetsip
Date: Thu, Oct 14 2010 09:45:02

@clyde616 I just started kung fu and im a beginner. We don't focus on just push ups and crunches but we have to do a lot of other stuff to strengthen those areas. Push ups and crunches are just warmups that we do with our stretches.

What tips do you guys have on the mile? I have it so that it's about 4 laps around my school's track. Basically I try to pace myself for the first 2, just going at a pace where the running is alright: not hard but not easy. Then on the third lap I step it up a bit and then the last 1/2 lap of the mile I just sprint. Suggestions?

You should start it while you have an increased heart rate, so do warm ups or whatever right before the race so you are breathing heavier, but don't actually tire yourself out at all, if you start at a resting heart rate your muscles aren't going to get more energy for a bit so its going to hurt your time. Just practice it until you can figure out a consistent pace for the entire race and just try to run as fast as possible for the last little bit. I think you are better off going a bit to fast at the beginning than trying to pace yourself, its only a mile, its really not that long. You should feel like shit at the end of it.

This topic seems very ambiguous. When you ask how many push ups can we do, do you mean at one try without stopping or how many in a certain time period? And im assuming you mean the full push up version. I used to do a lot of push ups but then i moved to some different work outs. i used to do about 50-60 in one continuous session. Not sure i can still do that many. I bet maybe around 40 now. There is also a variety with pull ups. If you do pull ups with your arms about shoulder width, its a lot easier than if you were doing a wide spread pull up. And there is a difference between going half way down and going all the way down. Also a lot of people use their feet to kick and help themselves up. On good days, i could do 25 continuous pull ups without any kicking. I always do pull ups with a wide spread. Usually i do about 20 for warm up. Lots of people do chin ups differently. Many people like going half way and others like going all the way down. I usually do both depending on why im doing them. If i want to count how many i can do, i go all the way down. If i want to work out my biceps, i go half way. I dont really do them often so im not sure how many i can do. Its definitely less than my pull up count.

Have a set routine, at a specific time where you'll be able to do it everyday. start easy then add a few kg/pound to the weights your doing, if you can't do it then build up muscle strength by doing other workouts that build that muscle area.

It depends on the food you eat and the routine you do. Doesn't mean eating a lot of food helps you, you gotta eat healthy foods like plenty of fish, salads, brown rice, anything with protein. Don't be putting yourself down because you don't see any results, body builders use supplements and it takes years to develop something up to their standard. keep trying :thumb:

yeah, firstly you gotta work on burning the fat. The only way to burn fat properly is to have a full body workout, meaning squats for your thighs, bench press for your chest, biceps curls for well duh biceps etc etc. Pushups are a REALLY good workout to do at home, here's a really really really good video tutorial for working out at home:

@Krispy Kreme no need for cardio?? cuz idk I also want to have a chiseled face..my friend says cardio(my face got smaller but not chiseled) but google says chiseled face = genes, you can't do anything if you really have a chubby face...it also says that some people maybe as buff as stallone in rocky 4 but still have a chubby face..T_T zzzzz

cardio would help of course. try running/biking/swimming/etc but doing intense workouts like the one ice1cube does also involve cardio. so if you work out really intensely, no need for cardio unless you wanna burn extra fat. thats why hanhchampion doesnt do cardio. or at least thats what he said lol

so we have this military training which is both stupid and good, stupid because of the jarhead haircut requirement, good because it helps you get fit, we got this shit we call "gigs" composing of 20 jumping jacks ~> 10 pushups ~> 10 mountaineerings, 10 gigs a day is probably ok then go lift weights or something or do more cardio if you want, but i think 10 gigs a day is already good since we have military training every thursday in which we are asked to do more

help here on losing face fat? do you necessarily need to have like 5% body fat in order to have a chiseled/ thin face? or does it come from genes? I'm trying to gain weight(muscle), I eat healthy food everyday, workout, I see some effect but the fat mostly goes to my face, and it sucks. Is everyday cardio really necessary to maintain low body fat? because I read that if you do too much cardio you'd be burning muscle already, not fat, zzz

you need fat to convert into muscle, or to burn it. You see those skinny ass guys like 14 that have a six pack, doesn't mean they are buff because they have abs. It's just their abs that are worked out not the rest of their body. Those big guys have ripped shoulders, pecks, arms, legs etc have overall body mass therefore it look normal on them.

Right now i'm at school doing a boxing program 3 times a week and the training is intense >.< The reason why you train like crazy then whn you play a soccer game you feel tired is because of your anaerobic fitness. You see running 15km at a steady pace is easier than sprinting up and down, then jogging on and off down the field for a good 90 minutes (or however long the game is) Do sprint sessions, that build up your lactic threshold so you can last longer in fitness.

i want to get good endurance too, but at the same time i want to get big? my classmate told me that if you do more than 20 mins cardio youre already burning muscle, not fat... i dont even know what to do with my body anymore -.- i want to gain mass while losing my flabs...just started eating salad a while ago but idk if i could still get big...i dont want to get fat first then get big...i want it at the same time so maybe when i go to gym class in 2nd term ill ask for an intense core workout

sometimes working out isn't too good. Don't workout too much that your body runs out of fat to turn into muscle. So you're working like crazy but you don't get bigger. You don't need to workout everyday, just had big sessions 2-3 times a week. if you're sore the next day then perfect ;) try that for a few weeks, have a gym session monday, wednesday and friday and go hardout and see if you get sore or not.

used to do 20 -25 mins 5-6km ,10~13 speed and 5~7 speed for rest, stopped because my gym trainer told me, and google too, that excessive cardio, especially after lifting weights, burns your muscle mass...well I'm a skinny ass guy and I need to get big, but I'm going back to doing cardio during rest days + situps because the shit on my stomach isn't fat, it's excess skin -.- so I really have to get abs to fill it in

Basically yeah. 20m length Each beep goes up in 0.1, it starts really slow, like you could walk to one side and have enough time. Later one it gets faster to a pace where you're just jogging to each side. When it reaches 10+ you literally gotta start sprinting to each side, when you fail once you're done. And the number you got up to is your record.

did 2 hours of cardio today.... I got into the soccer team so I have to improve my speed and stamina. Since it gets dark early nowadays (fucking Canada) I found out that I can run and get a workout in my basement. It was a mixture of bboying, running with a soccer ball (practising stuff) and running in general. On a side note, I was talking to my gym teacher and he told me that food and nutrition contributes to 75% of a person's fitness. Well I am fucked.

Pushups record was 60 o_o I put a textbook on the floor and counted one everytime my chest touched the book (which is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches off the floor). Chinups was about 7-8. Now I disregard strength and work on flexibility and technique. Can barely do 10 pushups now.

So currently I have reduced the amount of drinks I intake and reduced the amount of food I eat for lunch to lose some fat. For lifting, I am currently focusing on chest, and will perhaps focus on shoulders later on. Cardio is a part of fitness class but I am also in the rugby team which adds to the amount of cardio I do. I can already see some results (chest got bigger, abs got more visible) Let's hope I keep this up. On a side note, the biggest guy in my grade (he's absolutely huge physically) smokes cigarettes in insane amounts. His fitness level for some reason hasn't decreased one bit. Surprised as a normal person would be, I did some digging and found out that he goes to the gym in the morning, and after school to work out for 1.5 hours minimum. This is not including the fitness class we have together.

i started working out (pretty minimal, just like toning stuff) last week. my pushup count dropped from 50 to 30 T.T but that is probably due to the fact that im going slowly now. but just today, after doing sets, i feel very tired, but there isnt any soreness, just tired. am i doing something wrong?

go to sleep early and change your work-out. Increase the weight/intensity of the workout and mix it up. If you don't keep pushing your body, you will reach a stalemate  I can lift 270 pounds with my legs (sitting leg press) but I can only bench 55 pounds :( I workout every day for 45 minutes minimum but I have stopped seeing results :/ sadlife.

i try to beat what i did previously every time. as in i do feel really tired. i can feel the lactic acid pain, but then afterwards i dont feel the pain(micro muscle tears?) i used to. hmm that bit about sleep early is interesting. iv been getting like 6 hours of sleep per night this week xD maybe that has to do with it.

proper sleep is crucial. Your body needs time to rebuild all the muscles you have worked out. Try it for a day, go to sleep early and when you wake up you will be happy, fully of energy and feel fit.

as long as you are still working out, you are making progress. If you feel sore after a work out, that means you really pushed yourself and will have better results. Reduce time between sets and slightly increase the number of reps. Sore = better but not sore does not necessarily equal bad.

not feeling sore = you're doing something wrong, you didn't push yourself to the max, or your body is used to the workout. Mix up your routine, do more reps or lift heavier weights. That only happened to me when I was doing like 40-50 pushups everyday, my body got used to it so it didn't hurt the next day

I don't bench, just like 5 reps of 10 really slow push ups and some ab workouts. again, im not trying to get buff, just toned. on that note, any suggestions for ab workouts? and is it better to do 50 slow push ups or 100 normal paced ones?

you mean 5 sets of 10 really slow pushups? how will you get toned if you have no muscle mass? you can't build muscle out of nothing, you need to eat a lot, and take supps. Eh, I'd choose 100 normal paced pushups than 50 slow pushups... you get stronger by doing 100 pushups, but with the 50 slow pushups, it's more of endurance training rather than really building strength

You need to understand that high reps don't build strength, they build endurance. Also you need to understand that you should train all of your body. If you have fat arms and a massive back but skinny legs you look retarded. At a certain point you will have to start incorporating different movements into your push-ups. Try pushing yourself off the ground and clapping your hands in the air. You can work yourself up to handstand pushups or one arm push ups. There are so many moves you can do to increase difficulty on push-ups. For the back, pulling is probably the best exercise you can do. Get a pull-up bar or use a door frame or something and do pull-ups.

everday pushups = no progress, muscles need recovery and wtf? just go to the gym. I hate it when people only want to workout certain areas on their bodies. You're supposed to workout for your health, and as for muscles, you should be working out for strength, size but not too big, proportions, symmetry, aesthetics. Lol, good luck working out only your chest and back, working it out everyday won't make it bigger, you'd just get stronger, but would risk you to a higher chance of getting an injury. inb4 you turn to Johnny Bravo(chicken legs)

@Giotto the length of cardio you do depends on how intense it is. No point in doing 1 hour + cardio if you aren't going hard. ( I mean there is a point but still) push ups mainly work the chest but they do slightly work the biceps and abs. For abs do crunches, side-crunches, sit ups, planches etc. For biceps do dumbbel curls and if you don't have dumbbell curls, do wall push ups while leaning on a wall. It should work out your biceps.

planks =/= planches planches = pushup position but your legs are in the air, but your hands are near your waist...really hard...you need a fucking strong core

low body fat = all diet, some cardio/HIIT having a good body is 80% diet, 15% working out, 4% genetics, 1% sorting through misinformation/scientific studies with questionable methodology done in the 70s/dealing with meat-heads. there's no mind involved at all. have you even been to the gym and talked to the gorillas there? cuz I have, they're all my friends. also there are plenty of good reasons to do cardio for an hour even if it's not "intense". try looking up exertion zones.
