Is this the same as flourishes? I tried to learn them once but failed miserably.

Date: Thu, Jun 24 2010 22:48:06

I think flourishes are a part of XCM, they are easier than the other XCM tricks imo =_+ I got a few flourishes down but could never get the rest.

I think flourishes are more... flashy and magic like.

I used to, but nowadays not so much really. Might sell some of my decks of United Cardists if I can be bothered. And for anyone who doesn't know The Cuso is a REALLY good xcm/flourishing/cardistry site.

You should get the Dan and Dave Trilogy DVD once you get better has some really good flourishes in there

21. SPRiNGFiELD
Date: Sun, Jun 27 2010 04:15:45

learn the basics online first (decide if you like XCM first ) , then go for DVD's. if u really want them , i think u should really consider torrenting them cos DVDs can cost alot like close to a hundred bucks at least. i'm close to quitting cos it gets boring after awhile

But there's nothing better than what you come up with by yourself.

Indeed many new concepts are created in cardistry all the time compared to pen spinning :/

I've started doing some things about 2 years ago but I stopped after 2-3 months or so because my cards got wet because of the rain one day. I started once again few weeks ago but I'm still a noob. Here are my XCM vids:

kawearo wrote: does it work with the really tiny cards? like the ones that are 1/4 the size of real ones?
No, the cards used in Xcm/flourishing are generally either poker (standard) size or bridge (slightly narrower) Let me clear up a few misconceptions: XCM and Flourishing are different. It's hard to explain, but XCM is more..flashy? Y'know, armspreads, super complicated 1 hand cuts etc, while Flourishing is more elegant looking and usually consists of using both hands to cut a deck into multiple packets while keeping a smooth rhthym going. Video of XCM:
Spoiler
Video of flourishing:
Spoiler
It's hard to list the basics; xcm/flourishing is a much more developed art the Ps'ing and as such it has waaaaaaaay more stuff to learn. But here's a quick list of standard flourishes: Thumb fan 1 hand fan One hand cut(charlier) Card springs Waterfall Flourish Ribbon spread with turnover Those are just a few that come to mind. These are part of the basics that just get you used to handling a deck of cards. After you master these you can decide if you want to do XCM or Flourishing. I'll upload a video in a bit of me doing all those I just listed plus some more advanced stuff. If anyone has any questions just ask.
