If you are given the opportunity, say a mysterious light wakes you up during your sleep and tells you that it can grant you immortality if you want, would you say yes and why? Personally I would, since there are too many wonders in this world that one lifetime is not enough to experience. Plus I would want to know how the future will be, how the technology is going to be and will everything be all futuristic with hover cars and stuff. Also, I don't believe in life after death so I'm going to want to have a long long life. The con of this would be that in five billion years the sun will burn up the earth and so I would be drifting about in space for all of eternity.

I voted no, due to one reason. I may live see the world change and live on till the end, but I will see all my loved ones go one by one. I will get more friends and loved ones but the end is the same.

The idea fills many with dread. Consider a world in which millions of 150-year-olds roamed an already overcrowded planet, placing the environment and our welfare systems under incredible strain. Then there are the unforeseen cultural effects: Would people bother having children if they didn't need to live on through their offspring? Would the institution of marriage crumble under the prospect of 100-year — or eternal — relationships? Ethicist Leon Kass argues that finite life spans are necessary "for treasuring and appreciating all that life brings." But some scientists refuse to accept that death is beyond human control. "It's such a profoundly sad, lonely feeling that I really can't bear it," Kurzweil says. "So I go back to thinking about how I'm not going to die." An Extract taken from YAHOO! News. Well, to me, I would say Yes. Not really any reasoning behind it. Just don't want to die so soon.

No, because then I will not appreciate human life that much any more.

no. think about it. you have a job. when you are like 60 or so years old, you have enough money saved up to retire for about 30 years, which is about when you would die. If you were immortal, you would have to work trying to save enough money for a possibily thousand year retirement.

Personally I would. Theres too much to learn, experience and do for one lifetime. I want to see advancements in civilization and technology thats beyond my lifetime. I would love to be around when we can truly explore space n shit.

As much as the thought of not existing (essentially death) pains and frightens me, immortality would be too boring.

I definitely would.. if there's something i love, is the unknown. Especially the universe, other planets, extraterrestrial life, etc.. And the more we progress the more we know, and if i want to be there, i need to live a lottt

The world can't sustain an ever growing population. I'd rather much watch the world from afar than participate in it forever.

I would want to be immortal. All the things that will happen in the future are just too interesting to experience. Ofc i would become older and float in space for eternity after a few billion years but still -> Unconciousness =/= Death

The second the rest of humankind finds out you're immortal you are probably being locked up and are never seeing the light of day again. For the rest of eternity until something blows up the planet. The Country that captures you first will make you a soldier, how can you beat an immortal soldier. If you don't want to fight for that country prepare to be tortured 24/7.

Hell. Yes. I would kill to be immortal. There are many reasons why, whether because I simply do not wish to die or because there are endless things I wish to do. I understand that it is long, lonely road with its ups and downs, but all great things have conciquences. I would happily take the good and the bad.

Only if I want to bring someone with me into the immortality. Or together with the ability to time trafel. Then I go back in time and see the whole world history.

I wouldn't. I think it would be awesome to be dead, then you wouldn't have to do all that bull shit life requires you to do. I am scared of the process of dying, but the result is pretty comforting imo

Though there may be some truth to this, I am not entirely convinced.

I'll climb the Burj Khalifa and jump shouting yolo, creating an irony. Oh wait yolo won't be true for me anymore. Jokes apart. I want to be immortal. Future has so much. There's so much technology awaiting. Cures for incurable diseases, aliens, time travel, new sources of energy like arc reactors, etc. But as nexus says, it should remain a secret.
