do you think the competitors have a more accurate idea of which combo is better because of actually spinning on that level or that the system the judges use is more accurate at dissecting the worth of a combo because it's not as individual? sry for stupid questions. just hopped on on caffiene and getting into this second round -

the skill difference between the majority of judges and competitors is usually fairly considerable (although there are exceptions to this ofc); i think the competitors would have a better idea -

Well erirors combo is at least as difficult since in my opinion links=difficulty and at the same time it was in general way better executed and with much more control, the only thing I really think may cost him the win are the two flaws at 0:06 and 0:15. -

Oh my god you guys are so harsh with i.suk's combos, when he does linkages you guys don't give a fuck, when he does powertricks you guys say it's easy. i.suk's combo is harder than Eriror's (even if eriror's not easy at all), there's no doubt about that. Not sure if isuk's underrated or Eriror's overrated. They both are great though. i.suk should start 2p2h with sunflowerpowermother tricks with 9pen3hands (with a foot bro!) so that people would say it's original and hard. This battle is difficulty vs control, presentation's the same imo and btw I only see one mistake in eriror's combo (sun) -

Before i rant I want to say im far less skilled then the spinners im a bout to talk about. Isuk is a really nice guy irl, and eriror has always been awesome. Mostly its a matter of taste, so treat this as constructive feedback. FROM MY PEN SPINNING SOULLLLLLLLLLLLL My Commentary on isuk vs eriror: its obvious apparent isuk has better difficulty, in both links and "flashy power" tricks. Eriror has the better execution, better structure and presentation. Its hard for me to explain how i feel. Like if we were to break down both isuk and eks combo, like through maths and logic, present graphs (lol) , then probably isuk should win. But to me a combo is not a really about getting the points on the score cord. Its not a situation you can feed a robot to analyze. Pen spinning at its core is skill that can impress people, not scorecards, and give them a certain after taste of the combo, and reflect. It's partially why im heavily against slowmo's, at least especially in the same video of your tournament vid. If you cant present the linkage in the combo and have to rely on slow mo for people to appreciate it, then quite plainly and simply, your presentation was bad. Either slow down and present the trick better, or somehow make it obvious. This applies to both isuks pd linkages and erirors 2 strange moments in his combo. By having a slow mo after your video the judges will then definitely have a tendency to rethink about the combo immediately, even before they can reflect on what they just saw. I dont think either spinners are overrated or underrated. Both are very popular. To me I enjoyed erirors combo better. I feel like isuk is following a manual or something when he spins. Insert 2p2h, insert pd variation, insert semi interesting link, insert power at end. Its like if i were to listen to a song thats tehcnially superior with crazy guitar rifts, it hardly means its a better song then one that has less technical ability. To be frank, the latter might just be a better song. :)

I would totally agree with you, if this were a public presentation (spinning in front of people for real). But this is an online competition, therefore guidelines had to be set up in order to make one combo "better" than the other so there would be a winner. These guidelines push spinners to find the limits of pen spinning by finding and executing new things. Also, these are just humans judging. Different things are gonna appeal and draw them to either combo anyway. -

And I'm completely against this. Even though I previously never included slow-motions in my videos, I always urged people to rewatch my combos, look closely and try to see what is actually going on. The whole reason why I make videos like this is to be subtle, and you are saying that the complete idea of that style is wrong! I love watching videos and watching them again, dissecting the linkages that are beneath the surface that the 'normal' spinner might not see. Just look at Fascyo's combo from R1. That combo is retardedly insane and difficult. But do you hear anyone about it? No. It's this mentality that I think is a huge shame. :( Sure, I can see myself losing against a powerhouse [cwutididthar] like ISAE, but I hope it's not because judges in a World Tournament are against watching videos in slow-motion because they think tricks should be obvious and flashy. i agree with the slomo problem, and i may delete them if this is realy bad . :ninja: imo, the slowmo issue boils down again to whether a judge is competent. Slowmo videos were always supposed to be an aid for anyone to identify incredibly subtle links or just for a less experienced judge to identify things he may have not been able to identify. Sometimes a slowmo is necessary if the spinner spins at 258rpm or the quality of the video is bad. A good judge would always grade the execution and presentation first before watching the slowmo because these 2 factors are visual based critera's. Even if there he spots a mistake only after watching the slowmo, it shouldn't affect the execution marks. (which is why he should watch it after because when a mistake is spotted there's no way to unsee it) The only real factors it should contribute to creativity and difficulty. These are the more theoretical based grades. Things like breakdowns and linkages weigh into the no of points the judge gives. Some things just can't be spotted when it comes to intricate linkages or new concepts. We could easily be deceived that a specific sequence looks simple or uncreative when it actually isn't. Plus seasoned spinners and judges should be able to have an estimate of what the creativity and difficulty of the combo without slowmo. At most watching the slowmo would +-1 to difficulty/creativity. I guess there are a few instances where watching presentation would be affected if I watch the slowmo again. eg in cases where the spinner does some incredibly subtly difficult linkages and I can only identify them in slowmo because the camera angle was kind of bad of those linkages. Even so, these instances would only factor +-0.5-1 marks of presentation. In general, good judges would be have a very close estimate of the overall marks of the combos and would employ slowmo with spinners with weird styles or if the battle is incredibly close and he needs to boil the combos down to the breakdown to figure out which is more difficult/creative. Rookie judges would probably also need the breakdown just cause they're not experienced enough to figure out the true difficulty of the combo The slowmo tool is good in general but if the results are affected greatly by the fact there are slowmo videos are edited right after the normal combo, its the fault of the judges. So get rid of the bad judges, don't take it out on the spinner trying to help the judges. :ninja:

No need to forbid slowmo, for me it's just a preference, I'd rather slow the video down myself if I want to understand something. For spinners it should be a personal choice, sometimes a slow-mo may detract from your combo. Again, not a really big deal. I do think it would be in the best interest of spinners to include a separate slow-mo video link if they insist on presenting it, but it's up to them.

If you're a judge, most of the time you simply don't spin at the same level as the participants (otherwise you would probably participate, too). This simply means, that there's NO CHANCE that you can measure a linkage by simply looking at it. Yes, penspinning is an art and the goal of it should be to simply look good, but let's be real. This is a tournament. You can't judge by looks, that would simply make nonsense of the whole idea. If you can't use slowmo, any even slightly incompetent judge would rate combos like miyat r2 like the average combo of Baaron for example. It simply looks flashy to the average idiot. "oh, he executed it that badly, it must be hard!".

And no, isuks combo was not even near flawless. 0:18 a MAJOR offcam moment. This has nothing to do with flawless anymore. Aditionally to that, there's a lot of unnecessary handmovement from 0:09 to 0:15 (and in general) and the hybrids at 0:16 have nothing in common with a perfect charge rotation. -

Difficulty is a very relative term for most (not all) aspects of pen spinning. Switch spreads are much easier than normal spreads for me. I learned cont. arounds simultaneously as normal x1 arounds. I learned cont aerial busts before I learned how to do multiple normal busts. I know anecdotal evidence doesn't hold up very well, but think about your own experiences. Practice makes things easier, the more a spinner practices something the easier it is for them. Difficulty is always the result of of the judges interpretation, what is difficult for the judges? On the other hand, a cont x5 trick vs a cont 2 trick may be objectively harder. Disclaimer: I'm not judging this WT. When I judge I try to put my own experiences aside and take difficulty into account from a traditional pen spinning point of view. I find that at the WT level most of the combos have very "difficult" elements, be it linkages or tricks, and it usually boils down to mechanics and execution. Even good looking combos can be difficult too (shock horror!) just because something is aesthetically pleasing, or flashy, doesn't make it easy. This doesn't include hand waving, which I find annoying, but swivels, power tricks, and other good looking tricks can and should be used. I think most of the spinners in the WT are past the point of spamming power tricks and linkages. If not, they should be. The argument that it is invalid to look at a combo for merit as a whole is invalid. A combo can be torn apart and analysed until you love it, but like a good poem, it needs to stand on its own as well.

I'm not saying this to say he actually sucks (cause of course that's not true (sun), and that's the same thing for me, none of my combos has a perfect execution ) but first of all there aren't more than 5 spinners of this WT who have a flawless execution. I think there's only Mind & Beige (these are the two spinners that pop in my mind right now) and there are some other spinners that aren't participating this year (I'm talking about Hal or Nz who have (or used to have) a perfect execution. So now what is a perfect execution ? In my opinion (and I think several spinners will agree) you can say it's "perfect" when it's perfectly smooth, with no mistakes, not so many hands movements (ok Juminuwo moves his hand in every combo but I still think it prevents him to get a 5/5 in exe or presentation), no off-cam, and the most important, you have to have a perfect control, and by control I mean a great self-confidence when you're executing the tricks. Imo Hal has this ability, and Mesi sometimes too (but not in all his combos). Mind & Beige too, Raimo too of course. I personnaly think Spinnerpeem has this ability too (no mistakes with a great self-confidence) and Supawit in some of his combos, even if the Jap-style-Fan-Club is gonna kill me by saying this :p KTH used to have this ability too but he's kinda has been right now since the kind of tricks we're currently using has completely changed. Raeik's execution sucked. Sorry but that's true. His rhythm was clearly not perfect and his WT R1 combo got some mistakes too. (His combo was outstanding though.) s777's combos are smooth but clearly not flawless, there's no doubt about that.
