After watching all of them, it's hard to predict who'll advance to next round. I hope judges will carefully watch and judge.
A: Talco Gollumsk8 Migi EaglE (kin, Kipple, Xound, Enigma oh gosh a lot of great combos here.) We agree competely on groups H and E. I guess this means it's likely we picked the correct guys to progress from these two. *high five* We also agree on 24/32 spinners overall. Interesting to see all the guys I chose who you didn't, you mentioned in brackets as having good combos. I guess this selection we picked are the ones to choose from... I agree this was very difficult! The judges have a really hard time here. I hope they put the effort in! (btw, after looking at all 105 combos and picking a top four for each group, were you like -> :phew: ? lol)

Spoiler Group A : Gollumsk > Xound > Kin > Talco => Kipple Enigma Eagle Migi Gland are very strong too.. so many great spinners in that group. Group B : Ction > PPM > Orange - Far - Miyat (can't decide) => Yaemgo Tose DarkT Group C : Mind > Daimo > TBG > Iota Group D : Me?- Alvaris > Alvaris-Me? > Left > Mksft-Mart-Hansol => I think Left Alva & my position can be changed between the first and the third place, I'm not sure about that. Group E : Sutomo > Darkinhex > Baaron-Vikroal => Where's Precel's combo ? Group F : A13x-Eriror > Eriror-A13x > Kay > Blue - cLear - Beige => Too many great spinners right here again... Group A BEN_Z EaglE Enigma Gland gollumsk8 #4 kin #3 kipple #2 Migi #1 Miyuki pixels Shakespeare Talco Xound Migi topped this group for obvious reasons, outstanding combo, wow. kipple turned in an innovative 2p2h combo, putting him on #2. kin wasn't at his best, his wiper-part really wasn't that special compared to mind/beige/fel2fram, rest was ok. The fact that he placed 2nd in the last WT and that he spins an MX (srsly, people forget that) will probably still give him a spot in the next round. #4 will probably be pixels or gollumsk8. Sad for EaglE, Shakespeare and Xound though if my prediction turns out to be correct. Shakespeare's combo was just perfect in terms of aesthetics, I loved everything and every part of it. Unfortunately, it wasn't that good in terms of difficulty. Group B coffeelucky ctionist #1 DarkT Far #4 Fascyo #2 miyat MondPs Orange PoinT ppm #3 tose Yaemgo Zkhan ctionist and Fascyo dominated this group. Tough decision between Far, ppm and tose, tose's combo may have been a bit weaker. Some creative stuff from Orange but I don't think it was enough. Mondps and Zkhan submitted great combos too. A bit disappointed with some of the other combos. Group C Daimo DerDane faku iota K.A. MHL #2 mind #1 nuol #3 phisan Thebloodgod #4 Tmkk Yorch Zuo mind was mind-blowing. MHL and Nuol turned in excellent and solid combos and did a good job at replacing their respective originals. #4 will a close decision between DerDane (not his best one), Zuo (weird stuff) and Thebloodgod (solid, nice pink background and water bottle). Group D Alvaris #1 hansol Hikari Ivabra #2 Laye #4 Leftfinger Mart MKSFT neoknux_009 Retry Sly SouLKnight Tess ZaPV #3 This group makes me sad. It's BY FAR the hardest group to judge. Alvaris and Ivabra were just insane, no doubt about them getting the spot. Tough decision between Laye, Leftfinger, Sly, MKSFT, Mart (what's with his hands), neoknux_009, Retry and ZaPV. My votes go to Laye's and ZaPV's flawlessly executed combos. I rooted for hansol, but this group is just too brutal. Props to Retry's perfect 2p2h sync combo, Mart (O____O) and Sly's mouth wiper. Group E Amikiro Baaron #2 CreW Darkinhex Enkronidus GSL #1 Kenmai Precel #3 Sekai sutomo #4 Vikroal Wimsoc Zuppa #1 goes to GSL, great combo, nice counters. Baaron gets my #2 because I know his potential, even though he wasn't in top form. At first glance Sekai, Darkinhex, Kenmai, Precel, sutomo, Vikroal, Zuppa are on the same level. It could go either way. Group F a13x #1 beige #4 Blue cLear Engine eriror Kay #2 Laura Lovelife Nz #3 Robbin ROBO Swob The next hard-to-judge one. a13x advances for certain. beige, Blue, cLear, eriror, Nz, Kay, ROBO are SO DIFFERENT, i really don't want to be the one to judge this. Laura's clip was so cute but unfotunately, it was only average in terms of difficulty. Group G Cloud #4 Gibki Gisele8 #1 i.suk Lyt Mirektusheaux Neko #2 Rotator Schung Sound stopazz+ TmrW Toonet #3 What happened to Gisele8. Toonet and Neko (reminds me of far) both delivered great and solid combos, nothing much to say. I'm not too sure who will be the last one though, I'll just go cLear's twin brother (could also potentially be i.suk, Gibki or Sound). Group H ahno chlsps wtf dami- fel2fram #3 Impulse #2 Nimuhra pen ninja Penguin Rotation87 RPD x1213 #1 windy #4 Yamaguchi x1213 and Impulse will get their spot, easily superior to the other combos. I don't see how fel's combo was superior to windy's, RPD's or Rotation87's combo in terms of difficulty, his unique and beautiful style (+ the fact that he is hyped) is enough in order for him to advance to the next round though (don't get me wrong, I love his style, he will go far). #4 will probably be windy, solid combo, good presentation. AGREE OR I'LL PUNCH YOU :3

My word, I can't even name half of the tricks executed. This year is going to be the greatest tournament so far!

  21. Zombo
    Date: Tue, Jan 29 2013 18:28:12

recently I've had a change of heart concerning the perceived reduced difficulty of early tricks. I stated previously that putting tricks with a low chance of success early in the combo reduces their difficulty because you can retry quickly. While this is true, I also believe that if you DO land it, you put an huge amount of pressure of yourself to finish the combo successfully. This is because the trick is hard to land, so when you do land it, you don't want to waste this opportunity, which makes you even more nervous. So I guess in the end it evens out somewhat if your combo starts out with a very difficult trick and is long.

What's happening about chlsps cheating? @Zombo

  23. Ivabra
    Date: Tue, Jan 29 2013 18:50:09

I actually agreed with you when you said that, even if it's not always true. cLear's combo starts with basketballspins but I think it doesn't make it easier, since he does it three times in a row (which increases the difficulty) but your statement would be true if he only did one basketball spin (random example here). So I think it's both true & false, it depends on the trick used. I think it's always true if this is a spin (side spin or backspin like A13x & S777 in 2011) but it's false if you check MKSFT's combo since the "power part" is long enough, even if I don't actually recommand this type of combo structure ... (it's better to start with linkages but that's my opinion)

From http://worldps.org/wt13/files/wt13.pdf In determining placements for r1 results, spinners are ranked by who was voted most into the top 4 in their groups (same as wt11 r1 was) A brief analysis of http://www.worldps.org/wt11/r1/results/r1results.pdf (wt11 r1 results) reveals that this method can be improved, with some loopholes as explained below: In group A: Ponkotu got no votes for 1st place, 4 votes for 2nd, 5 votes for 3rd and 3.83 votes for 4th (total votes counted, 16) Fire@fox got 4 votes for 1st place, 2.5 votes for 2nd, 3.5 votes for 3rd and 2 for 4th (total votes counted, 15) While the difference in votes is just one, the current system leads to a spinner who is voted in first place 4 times place after a spinner who is voted in second place 4 times. In group C: (probably the most 'obvious' loophole) sister_r received 2.33 votes in 1st, 6.33 in 2nd, and 7.33 in 3rd (total votes counted 16) vicgotgame had 10.33 in 1st, 2.67 in 2nd, 0.67 in 3rd and 1.33 in 4th (total votes counted 15) Vic got 10 votes in 1st and placed after sister_r who got....2 votes in 1st, makes a lot of sense indeed :D (of course sister_r could get more 2nd and 3rd place votes than vic, since vic had most of his votes for 1st) In group F: tigeroat had 2 votes in first, 1.33 in 2nd, 7.92 in 3rd and 1.42 in 4th (total votes counted 16) mesi had 4 votes in 1st, 5 votes in 2nd, 3rd votes in 3rd and 0.33 in 4th (total votes counted 15) mesi clearly outranks tigeroat in 1st and 2nd places (mesi 4+5 = 9, and tigeroat 2+1.33 = 3.33, with tigeroat only getting more votes than mesi in the 3rd and 4th places), yet tigeroat places above mesi in the current method of vote counts In group G: Lekunga had 1.33 votes in 1st, 1.58 in 2nd, 7.58 in 3rd and 3.25 in 4th (total votes counted 15.67) Rex had 3.33 in 1st, 5.33 in 2nd, 2.83 in 3rd and 1.83 in 4th (total votes counted 15) Once again, rex ranks far better in first and second placings (3.33+5.33 = 8.66) than lekunga (1.33+1.58 = 2.91), but lekunga places above rex in current system of voting With these examples outlined, consider an alternate vote counting method: 1. count total votes spinner received for 1st and 2nd places 2. if above is equal, tiebreaker is total votes for 3rd and 4th places 3. if both of the above are equal, tiebreaker is total votes for 5th and 6th places ^Using the above method, the previous 'inconsistencies' in the vote counts explained will all be resolved, and also keep all the wt11 r1 1st-ranked spinners in their existing positions (except for group C's sister_r and vic); and judges don't have to do more work either :D This method also defends against possible corruption: e.g. Spinner A from board X is in the same group as spinner B from board Y, and both of these spinners are very strong with a good chance of progressing far So, the judges from board X can simply not place spinner B in the top 4 of their judgments --> advantage for spinner A in final rankings (e.g. sister_r and vic in group C example*), thereby allowing a combo which is voted far more favorably to rank behind an inferior one Of course, my proposed changes to the system also suffer this corruption (what if we just don't put our rivals in the top 2 for our judgments?), but the extent is far smaller than that observed in wt11 --> however, in analysing all wt11 r1 results, doing this would've done nothing to the final top 4 placings in each group, except for group E after that corrupted vote had been accounted for (yes, i have no life so i checked every group for this scenario) *note: in no way is this post implying that wt11 r1 results were corrupted in an intentional manner, it is merely a suggestion of a slightly modified method to count votes to eliminate misplacings in group stage edit: and yes, i know most people will tl;dr this lulz @Zombo final ending note: The current method in the wt13 rulebook makes 1st and 4th votes equal, however in wt11 r1, it can be seen that all people who were placed 4th overall in their pools were knocked out in r2 without a single exception :D So inherently, there is a significant gap in 1st and 4th placings. hmm...second edit: this post doesn't account for 'random guy who gets 1 first vote and no second, 3rd or 4th vote' situations, so the first 4 spinners could be selected by previous system (total votes in 1st/2nd/3rd/4th) then separated in manner this post suggests, ugh complicated.

I didn't see those rules. It seems the difficulty section is a little flawed, as the following combo is only worth 4/5! Inverse Thumbspin 10.0 -> Thumbaround -> Sonic -> Backspin 8.5 -> Pass T1-23 -> Middlemiddlearound Reverse (to other hand) -> Pass 23-12 -> Indexaround -> Thumbspin 5.5 While also being the hardest combo ever landed. Also, in what order where UPSB's spinners ranked? Edit: @i.suk - tl dr. :P Nah kidding, interesting point you raise.

Also, in what order where UPSB's spinners ranked? Edit: i.suk - tl dr. :P Nah kidding, interesting point you raise.
about the way difficulty is graded, it's (possibly) after WT09 where spinnerpeem used very simple linkages but insane power trick sequences leading to unbalanced combos, the criteria was changed to only allow 5/5 difficulty to be given to people who had hard linkages and hard tricks however, something like fl armaround ~ ringspiderspin 4.0 would still get 5/5 since it is a hard linkage into a hard trick ^^

http://www.youtube.com/user/PenSpinningWorldTour/videos?view=1&flow=grid made this for the wt13. tried making organised with playlists but I feel I could've made it more organised for each group but I'm most likely gonna do the same thing as the wt11 channel and have a playlist for each round afterwards.

after reviewing 15 results only group F top 4 is decided, but not the order of the spinners for the other groups, i'd say around 60% of spots have been clinched. the order is still in the air.

I think they don't. Different from Thai, Malaysian or Vietnamese that has Chinese ancestor, most of Philippinians ancestor are European.

Two weeks is long enough, that's just bullshit. There should be a penalty or something, it's been at least 4 years or more since judges have started being late and it's getting worse each year.

If they were lazy they should not have signed up to be judges, simple as -.- IMO if they don't reach the deadline they should be ignored.
