This is an excellent sport! What a fantastic idea, a test of mind and body in two great sports. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJy2kIWtyvQ Very tempted to start going to a boxing club next year in order to begin to play this game!

Of course it makes sense. Chess is a battle of minds and boxing a battle of body. You must be both mentally and physically ready for this sport. If you're better at the boxing, I guess you have to hold out in the chess and try to score a knock out, or if better at the chess, hold off damage in the boxing and try to checkmate. Most of the guys playing the championships in this are A rated (1900+ ELO) or above chess players and very good (top national level) boxers. It's certainly not an easy sport and a very very interesting one for sure!

What are the time controls like on chess? I am assuming its a blitz style chess game that has enough time to get to the final rounds of boxing if both players run short on time.

Time controls are: Each chess round is 4 minutes and each boxing round is 3 minutes and the match consists of 11 rounds, starting with chess. So it goes like this: Chess - 4 mins Boxing - 3 mins Chess - 4 mins Boxing - 3 mins etc You have 12 minutes on the chess clock. If you run out of time in the chess game, are checkmated, knocked out (TKO or KO) in the boxing or disqualified, you lose. If the match goes on for all 11 rounds and no-one is KOd or checkmated, the boxing scores are used and if the boxing scores are tied too, the chess player with black wins. In the chess, you are also required to make at least 1 move per minute of your time, otherwise, you get warnings, which can lead to disqualification.
