I searched but couldn't find a threat on this subject. Well ... if you feel like tell us about your favourite movies. Main topic should be less known but really good films (insider tips) and maybe discussion about upcoming films. I can recommend most films of Park Chan-wook. Especially Thirst, Oldboy and I'm a Cyborg but that's OK are really nice. As for upcoming movies I'm fairly interessted in Sucker Punch.

The actresses in sucker punch all look hot... But as of now, Inception is by far my favorite movie.

NO AVATAR AND INCEPTION PLEASE! Oh and my favourite movie would probably be A Serious Man. Good shit.

I thought Avatar was crap/overrated, and Inception is pretty good, its just that i got confused in some parts of the movie

Avatar was extremely hyped and overrated, that's for sure. But Inception was pretty good imho. (Far from getting my favourite movie but pretty good.) @Sucker Punch: The only thing I worry about is that all action elements fail due to women doing it. xD This failed extremely in movies like Charlie’s Angels ... but well, since Sucker Punch is from the director of Wachmen - wich was really nice - there is hope. ^_^'

fight club was really good, but has anyone seen the usual suspects?

  10. Awesome
    Date: Fri, Aug 6 2010 22:44:01

My recommendations are love exposure: Its a Japanese film, so you need to read sub titles or learn Japanese, and its long, (4 hours or so IIRC) so if those things do not intimidate you its a great movie imo. Puff Puff Pass: As the name implies, its a stoner movie, and a pretty good one at that. Should be enjoyed high :P Boondock Saints: It has a sequel which is still good but the original is better. Memento: Its about a guy who has no short term memory, you have to pay attention to it, but its one of my favorites.

ahh, the hangover its 8 weeks away, but i'm thinking of making a list of "must-see" movies to watch during my holidays i have: momento (after seeing inception, i want to see it) fight club (another mind-fuck film so i'm told that i haven't watched) i'll add to this later also, a minor quirk i noticed when i went to see inception today: === A GUIDE TO MAKING AN ACTION FILM TRAILOR === Wide shot of the setting, usually a sky-scraper filled city *street noises* *start horns/trombones pumping out long chords, softly* shot of main character, quickly establishing what they did to get into the trouble/conflict of the movie car chase scene *horns gradually crescendo* gun fight and explosion *drums are added to the horns* more gun fights, main character rescues love interest *music reaches a climax* *silence* important, yet highly vague piece of dialogue from main character *music (horns and drums, maybe strings added) start again* more gun fights huge explosion *silence* another vague piece of seemingly-foreshadowing dialogue *big swell of horns and brass* movie title END find me an action movie trailor that doesn't do this

Almost ... and you won't believe which film it was ... it was Click, this scene (crap quality so the facial expression misses) - I simply can't see old ppl trying to make their children/grandchildren happy and earning nothing but rejection and contemptuousness. Afterwards I tried to cry when waching other films or rewaching this scene but it never worked. xD /e: Wait! Yes of course! Most Leslie Nielsen films, Blues Brothers and Hot Shots as well made me really cry cause I laughted that much. xD

Several. Most notably Reign Over Me and Heart of Dragon. And the final episode of Scrubs (S08). Not a movie though. Anyone up for some good comedy? Airplane, Naked Gun... all the Zucker/Abrahams-films starring Leslie Nielsen are really worth watching. Also - Groundhog Day. Probably one of the less famous films starring Bill Murray...

Due to boredom I'll do 1 line reviews of the movies I have lately seen: The Expendables: Now that's a movie, most likely best cast all year, excellent action scenes and fucking funny (especially Mr. Schwarzenegger and Mr. Willis) The Other Guys: As said by some: Will Ferrells best role since Anchorman. Mark Wahlberg, Will Ferell, VERY hilarious movie Dinner for Schmucks: Liked it. Love Steve Carell and Paul Rudd had some good laughs from Carell's character. Also has Zach Galifianakis. Vampires Suck: A Twilight spoof. Not very good tbh., certainly one of the worse movies by Seltzer and Friedberg Valhalla Rising: Very boring drawn out movie about a deaf warrior and Christians. Any question about said movies feel free to ask.

by that i'm guessing you'ld be the type of person who would go see a movie for big action sequences without paying any regards to plot? ie. you would enjoy watching the expendables?

Sorry, but what the hell is Momento? :D. Memento is pretty much overrated movie imo. Didn't enjoy it that much; would give 7-8/10 though as it wasn't bad. Just not worth the hype. Also, if you like "Mindfuck" movies, you can't get better than D.Lynch's work. now my favorites: My all-time favorite - Mulholland dr. Amazing movie, nothing less. True definition of words ''Dark'', ''Bizarre'' and ''mindfuck'' Difficult to watch, as you have to pay attention into little details. Requiem for a dream - . Even though I may agree it's overrated, it's still worth watching and is one of my favorites. 20 last minutes is killer. Too bad there is nothing much in the beginning. But it's all a build-up for the ending. The Shining - favorite horror movie (well, together with '73 exorcist). Not really typical for a horror movie e.g. no squeaky doors, no wind blowing, no stupid laughter, no candles, no mirrors and other bullshit. (well maybe except one or two little scenes). Nice plot, perfect camera work. After all, S.Kubrick + J.Nicholson + S.King HAS to be a good movie. La vita e belle - Aww, most beautiful film I've seen. Loved every little bit of it <3 also recommended: Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind The Machinist Blue Velvet The Butterfly Effect Law Abiding citizen (favorite action movie. weak ending maybe) Gladiator American Beauty Clockwork Orange Casablanca Manhattan Mystic River. Worth mentioning: Inland Empire. I do not recommend it for anyone here though (maybe with few exceptions. But no, don't waste three hours)

guys, that was a general comment, i maybe should have taken out the ones that do have a good plot opinions on shutter island (put in spoiler incase anyone wants to watch it unspoilt)
there are people that thought it was a good movie, but this is what annoyed me so the little continuity errors and such (like when the crazy lady picks up the glass, then cut to a close up of the lady "drinking" without the cup in her hands) was meant to foreshadow the fact that it was all a made up thing right? but as i see it, if you are going to make it look like you made the errors on purpose, it has to be blantantly obvious, and not look like an amateur the cup shot sequence was done well, but what made it look like an amateur's work was the green screen when they were driving through the woods none of the trees cast a shadow on their faces, i'm pretty sure i could see the green glow (maybe an exaggeration). that was the part where the movie fell apart. i can see how the story was good, but the green screen and therefore the continuity errors became a distraction
