General Discussion / Spinning Under Pressure?

Whenever someone's watching me spin, I pretend not to notice and try to impress them, but I always fail. The main point of this thread is that 30 seconds of my 4 minute talent show act involves pen spinning. More precisely, with my leg behind my head. How do you guys cope with pressure? What do you tell yourself in your head. Should you do anything like wet/warm your fingers to unstressed them?

I practice infront of a mirror and infront of people. I always crack "Every" finger before starting and getting comfortable. It would also help to tell yourself that if you mess up you just failed infront of everyone

well, dont do anything crazy that you dont think you can land. if you are unsure about your consistancy with it then forget it. people will still be impressed.

just think as if there's nobody in front of you, as if you're practising alone. and just spam twisted sonics and easy tricks like that so there's a much lesser chance that you'll drop the pen - afterall the audience can't tell what you're doing even if its omg1337ultraleethardtrick, as long as it's flashy its okay

go gather crowds at school and perform for them. go sign up to perform at more places. the more you perform, the less nervous you'll be.

Filming helps a lot cuz it forces you to realize just how often you make an error so you know what tricks are safe and what are not in live situations. Keeping the difficulty down to a lower level then what you normally spin helps with consistency. Not dropping is always the biggest priority for live spinning for me.

for people who see pen spining for the first time,it's easy to impress them,a thumbaround or sonic will do!well

To cope with it when someone is watching I do the opposite of you. I don't try to show off but pretend that they don't exist. although when im about to mess up I usually just stop (without a fancy finisher) and just look at the observer. after that I then get a reply like "HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!"
