Basically I read only most popular titles such as Naruto, Bleach and One piece, but they started disappointing me (apart from OP), so I looked for something else and I found Gantz. This is one-of-a-kind manga, I really recommend it to everyone.

Do you guys prefer reading the manga or watching the anime adaptation of the manga?
-
Date: Thu, Aug 30 2012 20:00:59
Definitely manga. It is not that timeconsuming and i don't have to watch all the boring useless sequences (dragenball z is a good example). i can just go faster through 80 chapters of a manga than 80 episodes of an anime (if you can actually say 1 chapter = 1 episode, not sure about that) And you don't have filler episodes. :D

Manga to get rid of story line as quickly as possible. Anime for the eye candy and if you want to take things slow.

manga is 99% better than anime as it is the original, complete atory. think of novels/comics vs. movies. in some cases however, anime is better due to sound: nodame cantabile, lucky star, beck, detroit metal city, etc. i would also argue that for light stories, anime is better since it displays the "moe" factor better due to voice expression and cute animations -

Cage of Eden, High School of the Dead, Deadman Wonderland, Naruto, Cradle of Monsters, Umineko no naku koro ni (Made by the same person who wrote Higurashi, which i also recommend. Thought they both have multiple series/storylines so it can get confusing), Hanako to Guuwa no tera, Hoozuki no shima, Elfen Lied and Mirai Nikki...only ones i can think of at the moment. Loved them all! So cool >3<

for some shonen action sort of thing: Black Cat (our protagonist assassin becomes a bounty hunter!) Nurarihyon no Mago (our young protagonist is the leader of a famous Yokai clan.) Dendrobates (adult content. The protagonist is an assassin under the guise of a policeman. He's like a mercenary for revenge.) Gansta. (adult content. Takes place in a fictional town, deals with gang violence, etc.) Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro (contains some psychologically disturbing images. A demon who -eats- mysteries comes to earth, and uses a girl as his cover to break mysteries and eat them.) Shinrei Tantei Yakumo (there's two versions, one in 2005 and one in 2009, the 2005 one is complete. I liked both. About the protagonist who can see ghosts.) Switch (about the police trying to uncover some kind of secret drug organization.) Wolf Guy - Ookami no Monshou (adult content. The last werewolf alive on earth, attending a high school. Deals with gangs, etc.) Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicle (Clamp's famous fantasy manga lol. It's hard to explain.) Full Metal Alchemist (everyone knows this one.) Shibatora (I personally love this one! About a policeman who looks like a middle schooler, and he helps kids convert from their evil deeds, etc.) +C Sword and Cornett (sort of a fantasy, old English world kind of thing.) Kuroshitsuji aka Black Butler (set in Victorian England, about a kid who makes a contract with a demon and the demon becomes his butler. He wants to take revenge on the people who killed his parents.) Pandora Hearts (hard to explain. Lol.) Ubel Blatt (adult content. Takes place in a fantasy world. Our hero, reincarnated through the blood of a fairy, seeks revenge on the 6 that betrayed him. I really recommend this one!) Karneval (Our hero is searching for someone important to him, with only an abandoned bracelet as a clue. Him and another youth, Gareki, eventually are taken in by the country's defense organization, Circus!) Defense Devil (Our demon hero, is a lawyer exiled from hell. To return, he needs to collect dark matter. He collects these by proving those sentenced wrongly to hell are innocent.) Zennou no Nao (In 2038, some sort of white light wiped the memories of over 1 mil people. The government made a different city for them underground, and they are called KIDz, because they are like children, needing to be taught everything again.) Akusaga aka Blank Slate (Our protagonist's memories have been wiped, and he can't remember if he was a killer or a hero.) Romance: Koko ni Iru yo! (Our protagonist is unnoticed by everybody, until a handsome young guy confesses.) Dangeki Daisy (Our heroin lost her older brother, and is left with someone's phone number, saying he would support her if she can't support himself.) Watashi ni xx Shinasai! (Our heroin isn't lured by the class' number one womanizer, and instead blackmails him to do "missions of love" not in a sexual way.) Horimiya (Our protagonist is a hand working high school girl, who's parents are always away. She meets a guy who looks like a gangster with all those piercings and tattoos, but turns out to be a pretty nice guy.) Kamisama Hajimemashita! (Our hobo heroin gets offered a house. Little does she know she just signed up as the head of a shrine with Yokai as servents.) Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (Our heroin delivers notes to a guy, and guy becomes convinced they're friends.) Comedy: Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Our octopus alien protagonist, who can move at mach-20 speed, teaches a class of students who are failures in the normal view. If they cannot kill him in a year, he blows up the earth. He teaches them how to assassinate him as well as normal subjects. Quite funny xD) Horror: Ibitsu (Our hero is throwing out the trash one day, when a mysterious gothic loli asks him "do you have a younger sister?") DOUBT (TONOGAI YOSHIKI) (There's a game called "Rabbit Doubt" going on in Japan. Basically, everyone is a colony of rabbits with one wolf, and each time, a rabbit is killed by the wolf. A few people decide to meet IRL to play this game, but...) Tragedy: Deep Love - Pao no Monogatari (About a stray dog... tears. Tears everywhere.) I'll edit once I remember more. Lol. Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan (Our heroin helps her aunt in a jail where heinous criminals are put on death row. There she meets a man named Yuu. Very touching manga, highly recommended.) I just dug up my manga list. Holy crap I've read a lot... this isn't even half LOL.

This thread is boring. Thus I will hijack it. The thing is that it's mostly people posting what they've read so far exactly one time to disappear in a puff of smoke afterwards and that's only interesting if you're looking for mangas you might have overlooked. I propose rather doing mini reviews for what you're reading at the moment or have finished recently as it's much more interesting for the few people in here enjoying manga on a regular basis. So here I go. For some reason I really enjoy looking for smut. Maybe it's a protest reaction to unfunny clichées, maybe me being too /v/irgin for this world or maybe me just looking for things crossing the line of ecchi and tsundere and actually indulging in the tension involved when reaching third base or a new realm of perversions. So I came along Minamoto-kun Monogatari (thanks @taichi1082 and @sparking). The premise is, err, "unusual" because it's about an aunt making her nephew re-enact the classic Tale of Genji which is in a nutshell about the "Shining Prince" having lots of love affairs. The drawing style is quite nice, the actions explicit, but the manga suffers from the too short chapter length (about 9 pages on average), which is why I dropped it. Otherwise I'd have to wait about three years for the main character to get his fifteen women conquered. That's why I'm following Kangoku Gakuen at the moment. It's made by the author of Me and the Devil Blues who unfortunately had to cancel it after four volumes. If you've read that one you should remember its drawing style with overly exaggerated perspectives and facial expressions. Now imagine it applied to a parody of harem and prison escape. It's ridiculous for lots of wrong reasons, one of them an all-girls school led by masochistic females enslaving a group of boys who were caught peeping. I'm just afraid that as soon as the escape is over the series will lose most of its appeal, so I might drop it, too. Oh well.

My shoujo and josei manga: Real Clothes Josei, about a woman who gets transferred to the fashion department of her store and finds her way into selling clothes. Very recommendable. Otomen I recently discovered it but it is pretty old already (and well-known...?). Hilariously funny at times. About a boy who likes girly things but has to hide it from his mother because she feares that he could end like his father (who ran away to become a woman). http://www.batoto.net/comic/_/comics/absolute-witch-r175"]Absolute Witch I always have to get used to the style of drawing but I like the story and fantasy approach to shoujo. http://www.batoto.net/comic/_/comics/basara-r305"]Basara Oh god, I love Basara. It was one of the first manga which I borrowed from the library (back when I was young, haha) and I rediscovered it after many years and finally finished it. I like the slightly post-apocalyptic setting and gender bender approach (very classic concept) http://www.batoto.net/comic/_/comics/crystal-dragon-r2706"]Crystal Dragon The setting is Great Britain at the time of roman occupation and makes use of celtic myths and legends. http://www.batoto.net/comic/_/comics/d%E2%80%A2n%E2%80%A2angel%E2%80%A2-r6055"]D.N.Angel I wish they'd continue this manga. :( It was also one of the first manga I read and borrowed from the library. Ahhh good memories. Makes use of the same concept as Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne (aah, my childhood memories :3) and Master Kaito but in a shoujo context (and different to Kaito Jeanne) Emma It's not really shoujo but has a good love story and story in general (if that is what you like). Setting is Great Britain in victorian times. The female main character is awesome. http://www.batoto.net/comic/_/comics/the-one-r1630"]The One The main character gets into the fashion industry. Typical shoujo but enjoyable nontheless. Otoyomegatari It isn't strictly shoujo but the art is breathtaking, detailed and simply awesome. The story revolves around arranged marriage in the early 19th century near the caspian sea. Did I mention the awesome art style? Please save my earth Isn't this one of the classics? Not sure. Very enjoyable. It is about seven young people who think they were reborn and "aliens" in their former lives. sakamichi no apollon It got an anime adaption but I think the ending there was not so good (the soundtrack is amazing though). Josei. Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan Not strictly shoujo but tragic and sad. The description speaks for itself: "A pianist who attempted suicide 3 times, Juri, is taken to help her aunt at a prison where murderers who killed indiscriminately are sentenced to death. There, she meets a man named Yuu who took the lives of 3 people." Oh I just noticed, I've only read this manga because of @Stymphalian. Thanks for the recommendation back then. :P

You've reminded me I still have Absolute Witch and I wish... on hold. Other than that I'm occasionally reading Nausicaä when I'm doing something else than pretending to be busy with uni.

Nooo, Wasa, stahp, don't give me more manga which I'd like to read. The list is too long already. T__T

And I've finished Nausicaä. Woah. Didn't expect it to be so nihilist at the end. The endless war scenes were boring me. And my scans could have been better. Anyways, it has been an interesting read, but I'd need the books to rate it fairly. I could of course go and joke about how japanese pollen, bugs and miasma tentacles are, but that would be pointless. --- Regarding other manga, I've finished Planetes a while ago and didn't write a review yet. So here's a quick summary. It's written and drawn by the author of Vinland Saga. I learned about that only after finishing my read. The genre is hard sci-fi, meaning that unlike your usual sci-fi there's some actual truth behind the futuristic technology. At the beginning it feels a bit hacky and I needed about two volumes to get adjusted to the drawing style. At first it seems it's just about a crew in space picking up trash, but after some time it starts to focus on two characters and their journey through self-development and the emptiness of the universe. Towards the end the loose ends are wrapped up for an ending I did not expect. I'm quite impressed. It's serialized in german and english, so no excuse for me not buying it. Oh and did I mention it's kind of about love? *me goes wiping a tear*

Horror/mystery/seinen and similar maga that I've read: Another Follows the typical "One dies after another" pattern but very enjoyable with an interesting story. Completed, 20 Chapter. Apocalypse no Toride Yayness, Zombies/ Zombie apocalypse and a prison (similar to HOTD but better, more believable, less boobs (same sizes though)). Gore. Bio-Meat: Nectar Similar principle; group of kids have to survive creatues that eat almost everything. You can be sure that all the ugly looking people will die and evil coorporations are included too. You might have to get used to the art style. It is rather unusual. Completed. Mahou Shoujo of the End This is so fucked up. Kind of zombie apocalypse-y but not really. Monster One of the classics with an very good and realistic (in a way) story. Definitely worth your read and highly recommended. Completed. Mushishi If you feel like something more slice of life, mystery and less gore/dying, then this manga is something for you. Completed. Region From the same author as Bio-Nectar. It follows the same pattern. Completed. Sprite Uses an interesting concept of "Time" and future apocalypse. Uzumaki One of the classics, as far as I know. Completed. Kanojo o Mamoru 51 no Houhou About an earth quake in tokyo and a group of survivors. Completed. Ajin About people who can't die and the government who experiments with them...kind of. It was just recently serialized. Eden: It's an endless world So many people die. It's almost as bad as Terra Formars. It discusses philosophical concepts, but occasionally the plot gets long-winded. Completed. Gringo 2061 Only three chapters released and not sure if it'll be a good read or not. >.> Sidonia no Kishi This author likes to have bears as characters. The art can be confusing to follow at times, that's also the reason why I stopped reading another work of this author. This one was better though. Terra Formars People die and die and die. Don't care too much about a character, he'll be dead soon enough anyway. :( Toukyou Kushu About ghouls and how they have to deal with humans. I really like the story.

I just read some chapters, I first thought it was interesting, but then they started to have sex and they had sex like EVERY FUCKING CHAPTER. I seem be unable to find the story. -

Yeah, i figured. But since one of the genres was "smut" I thought that Wasa might like it.

Nashi wrote: Yeah, i figured. But since one of the genres was "smut" I thought that Wasa might like it.
I just gave up on it. Searching for a plot or story seems impossible. It's just the sex-life of a guy and a ghost. Back to those horror stuff you suggested. -
Date: Mon, Nov 4 2013 09:45:00
How did you even stumble upon this? I must admit there's too little going on there to keep me interested. Except maybe the "huge pieces of bread". Besides, how the hell are they able to have sex when that ghost just passes through everything? Or is she more of a jelly blob? Good grief, I don't want to imagine how it feels to defile a bag of jelly. Another possibility is that the author is just foreshadowing that she will return as a physical person at the end. @Nashi : Since you're so interested, have a short essay" where I try to explain my fascination for the genre. And while you're at it, compare that work to something like this. 197X has about the same amount of sex as Kana, but is condensed to one chapter and uses the scenes as stylistic device just like other authors use symbolic metaphors (Oh!Great, I'm looking at you). The story is about a highschool guy meeting with a girl who seems to share his passion about movies. I like how the author does not show any judgement and just lets the story flow on until its realistic, almost even bitter end. So yes, I guess I prefer either realistic short stories or longer ones where sex isn't the main attraction. --- @fang : So I herd u liek horror mango? I'm sorry most of my recommendations aren't straight horror. Probably because most of the stuff I end up liking manages to fuse genres in a nicer way than the usual suspects. So enjoy. Homunculus: Mostly psychological, made by the author of Ichi the Killer, which means it's about as twisted. Some people say it's horror because of some gruesome scenes and metaphors. The end is a bit boring. Serialized. Berserk: I never expected to like a medieval manga. It has one of the best antagonists I've ever seen (the one from Monster is about the same level). The horror lies mostly within the very graphic drawings and once you start thinking about all the implications arising. Itou Junji's Cat Diary: I really like that author's style, his most recommended work is Uzumaki. Don't read that if you plan watching Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann afterwards. The thing is that I'm not really satisfied by the rest like Gyo, so I was happy discovering a work where he tried drawing a slice of life manga about his cats. That weird mixture makes it quite amusing. Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service: Mostly short stories on the occult. It's about a group of young people who fulfill the last wishes of corpses. Serialized. Goth: Short and sweet. Last story wasn't to my liking, but somehow I enjoy the drawing style. Serialized. Parasyte: Very naisu. Oldschool drawing style, unusual premise and while it has its horrifying moments it keeps it interesting enough. The author is doing [a historical manga] now I haven't read yet. Franken Fran: Lots of short stories. Distracting covers. If you shall ever be in need of advanced surgery, don't go to Franken Fran. She's a sweet girl and has noble motives, but even she can't beat death. Not without the scary complications. It's more gore than horror though. Serialized. MPD Psycho: On my TODO list. It's supposedly interesting and somewhere between horror and psychological. Tokyo Red Riding Hood: Matrix-Chan recommended this one. So fucking sick. I'm not sure whether it's just twisted child pornography clad in the issues of a modern Red Riding Hood. Unfortunately it loses all of its strengths towards the end. Still worth a read I guess. Litchi Hikari Club: I'm not sure what to think of Usamaru Furuya. Sometimes he releases amusing or even genre-breaking works like Short Cuts and Palepoli. Sometimes truly sad stuff like Happiness (the irony). Sometimes it's just the jaw-dropping kind of beauty like in The Music of Marie or Garden. This one doesn't make too much sense to me. Perhaps you'll like it. Nashi already recommended Tokyo Inferno He's definitely an interesting author. Some of his works are serialized. Everything by Shintaro Kago: The guy who turns shit into gold. Yes, seriously. He releases twisted and mind-bending, more or less experimental short works, mostly about guro and scat. If he doesn't pad it to enough pages, he just adds some pointless sex scenes you can't even fap to. It's debatable how horror his works are. I'm sure people exist who find it scaring. Paranoia Star: So you would like to fancy Shintaro Kago, but need something more polished? Worry not, Suehiro Maruogot you covered. It's mostly the same topics, though he introduces evil, occult and art, lots of art. Serialized. Hellsing: Anything decent with vampires is horror by definition. Though I bet you can enjoy it even if you think this is just action. The probably greatest vampire is out there to kill... vampires. The OVA takes it up to eleven and is one of the few cases where I recommend the animated over the drawn version. Serialized, but mostly sold out. Gantz: My first seinen manga. So beware, I'm probably pretty biased. The reason why it's on my list is the monster design and it dealing with angsty teenagers (aka running for your fucking life to avoid dying). Did I mention lots of people die? Don't get too attached to them. It's weak in the beginning, but picks up and holds it up to the second arc. I don't think describing the content will make you read it, so just try (and skip the fanservice). The anime is surprisingly good in capturing that angsty atmosphere, but has a really sucky end. Serialized. Claymore: So you like medieval manga, but Berserk is going on for too long for you? And you don't want to see as many people die as in Gantz? Try this one. It has great monster design and is quite creative regarding that, so if you find monsters scary, go for it. If you dislike lots of blonde identical looking females, then don't. No idea about the anime, it might be worth a try. Serialized. I Am A Hero: On my TODO list. But it's about zombies and taichi1082 recommended it to me, so it can only be great, right? --- Bonus round! Since I mentioned a surprising amount of authors and Suehiro Maruo and Shintaro Kago are a great team, both Junji Itou and Usamaru Furuya stay unpaired. I have no other great horror author, so I'll add Jiro Matsumoto to help out Usamaru Furuya with regards to weird, more or less sophisticated or just interesting short works. He loves trying out as many different gritty styles as he can and is quite unconventional when it comes to ideas for them. I like the way he draws women. And his quotes at the end of the stories are very motivational. I still have to read Freesia, his longest manga so far. It's about a society where you're legally allowed to kill people to avenge your loved ones. But since people dislike getting their hands dirty, somebody has to do that kind of job for them.

http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2013/11/22/berserk-creator-kentaro-miuras-new-sci-fi-romance-manga-launches Infos about the new miniseries of the berserk author. Also, damn the new OPM chapter is soooo good, like holy shit, the art gets better and better. Murata is awesome!

Oh man, how dead is this thread? :( I have to revive it again. Mob Psycho 100 Created by the same author as Onepunch-Man. I reaaally hope that Murata will redraw this webcomic too, it'd be such a waste if he didn't. I'd say it has even better characters and story than OPM, so read it folks! It's one of my favourites atm, together with Kingdom, Song of the Long March, Nobunaga no Chef, Otoyomegatari (all the historical mangao_O), Tokio Ghoul,Teppu Sakamoto desu ga and OPM of course. Oh just read through your list, @webspider. Very nice. I should continue Berserk. >.>

Since I own an ebook reader and can't be arsed to grab classic russian fiction for it, I'm abusing that thing for reading manga now. I've used that chance to re-read that bird-protagonist manga and can't believe the scanlator will finally deliver the last tankobon. With this one I will finally know whether I've found my holy grail (or not). I expected to not have a clear favourite when it comes to manga, but this one might be it. After that I tried something I haven't touched in years and that would be Unbalance x Unbalance, the probably most accessible work by Dall-Young Fucking Lim. I really hate that guy for writing his action-ecchi page turners, then getting them illustrated by various artists (who end up drawing in a very similiar way) and either ending them horribly or putting them on hiatus. Worse, he used to juggle too many stories at a time. It got a bit better because he terminated some not too long ago, but whatever. As for the story itself, it's about a male protagonist (who for some reason is neither a wuss nor a braindead idiot) and his overly well-endowed teacher. I guess @Ignator might enjoy this.

Read The Gamer. It's korean and so fucking hilarious. The main character has an ability that is so op you cant even compare it to others. Though the mc himself is not overly strong at the beginning he gets stronger at a fast pace(due to his ability). It's neither one of those mcs who are just op to begin with or those who are just weak for a long time then jump to serious wtf op. It's a pretty steady, but fast progress.

Hmm Romance. I'll repeat myself here but eh. Here's my list. I liked Sayonara Piano Sonata. it's kinda different from the description though. They don't really form a rock band. o_O Sakamichi no apollon had nice romance too. And it was good slice of life. Orange marmalade It is a korean webcomic though. Please save my earth Planetes The romance is more towards the end. But I liked the ending a lot. otoyomegatari The topic might be a bit unusual but the art is awesome. Emma Same author as otoyomegatari Complex Basara Aww yeah Basara is da beeeeest. That is what my nostalgia tells me anyway. ^_^

@Nashi: I don't and have been reading surprisingly little. These two oneshots might make it on my TODO. That aside, I've finally finished I Wish.... It has an odd drawing style, too, but it's not impossible to get used to it. Scans are of mixed quality. The story is neither depressing nor smutty (I know, happens rarely with the things I recommend). As for the content, the manhwa is about a magician who grants his clients exactly one wish in exchange for their most precious possession. Unlike other works about that kind of topic, the losses aren't as gruesome (which makes a lot more sense, somebody granting wishes in a malicious way wouldn't have lived for very long). A girl who lost her parents and her brother wants him to bring her relatives back, but he declines and makes her his apprentice instead. From then on the story follows various characters and their wishes. I find the premise kind of refreshing and have to admit that the manhwa had its moments. Unfortunately it had its low points, too. Maybe it was the scans or just the somewhat erratic storytelling. However, I didn't regret reading this and thank the guy who recommended it to me.

They should. :P Ah I had that one on my To Read list too. Looks like the typical korean shoujo style...I think? Didn't check it yet, but the style reminds me of this one It's a bit annoying to read. What I also started, is Gisèle Alain. It reminds me of Emma, quite the relaxing read.

I used to have difficulties naming my favourite manga, because I couldn't decide between Berserk, Ichi the Killer and Ultra Heaven. Since then I continued reading more and my priorities have shifted around a bit. While I like my smut and everything else touching teenage angst, I have become fascinated of the mundane and commonplace events in life and (mis-)communication between humans. Some day I've seen a screenshot posted on a forum, showing a surgery done by people who couldn't care less, mentioning how they'd prefer playing playstation than doing a serious job. It turned out to be from Oyasumi Punpun, a manga of the coming of age genre (just like FLCL, my favourite anime) about a boy who is drawn as a caricatured bird growing up. I was intrigued to say the least and started reading. While the manga is actually written from the perspective of a fairly innocent boy going to school and experiencing adults as weird beings from another planet, it switches from the third volume on to a fairly grim view on life and self-expectations. Eventually it reaches the realms of existential crisis and depression, all that while staying shockingly realistic. The incredibly detailed drawing style and characters stress this attribute even further, up to the point of being painful to read. I have to mention that I can relate too well with the main character's fears and problems as I used to have a similiar phase of not being able to do anything at all, essentially being a zombie only capable of indigesting and buying food and not doing much more. That being said, I hope the author just happens to have austounding writing skills. So, while I kept diving more and more into that twisted story, I was wondering whether this manga could become my favourite. Today its scanlator, Hox, released the last volume. I am impressed by the end, simply because I've seen enough promising manga wimping out on it, either because the author was forced to, didn't know a way out or hadn't the time to think of something better. With that, my quest has finally ended. If you want something lighter, the other works by its author, Inio Asano, are worth a read (although they aren't as good IMO). Alternatively you can check out other stuff Hox released, like Black Museum Springald, Sneewittchen or Historie. His blog posts are quite interesting as well, but mostly focus on his longer running scanlations than the smaller bites.

@webspider How do you read your manga? Is it mainly online? If so, do you read it on the computer mainly or do you read it on your phone?
-
Date: Wed, Jan 29 2014 00:06:21
@Supergirl: I used to read online, but I noticed that I was reading faster than the websites loaded. So I started downloading everything, first to avoid that problem, second to have the best quality and third, to not be limited by the selection of titles or online viewer the website offers. I do this mainly on my computer, though I tested reading manga on an ebook viewer recently. It is kind of a nicer experience, especially because you can do it so much more comfortably in bed, but these things are a bit smaller than physical manga.

Ooh, I used to do read naruto on my nexus 7. But where do you download your manga? -

@Supergirl: Mangaupdates lists like everything notable and the scanlators working on manga, from there I go to their websites or IRC channels and download. Sometimes I'm lazy and use torrents, mostly for packs of single chapters. Or that one FTP server somebody out there stuffed with way too much manga. If you're only concerned about the quality of the manga you read, Batoto doesn't alter it unlike most online readers.

Can confirm, Batoto is the best online reader. It respects the wishes of the scanlator groups (in contrast to other online readers...main offenders are manga reader/panda etc.). Also Batoto lets you keep track of the manga you're reading in an easy way. Maybe I should switch to downloading manga but I read so many manga and many of them are ongoing. Maybe I'll start downloading them when I get an e-reader. Guess I also should read Oyasumi Punpun, everyone talks about how good it is (and I trust your judgement, Wasa). About another matter: I have 95 manga on my reading list, 56 on my completed list, 38 on my wish list.

@webspider i started reading oyasumi punpun yesterday and i must say, its quite addicting. its awkward, its bizarre, its disturbing, its adorable, its funny, its sad... quite an emotional quest. it started off a bit weird for me, but after a couple chapters i just couldnt stop. great suggestion webspider! EDIT: so i just finished punpun... im happy its over, mainly because i got pretty attached to some of those characters. i still think the ending could have been done better, but i think that where the characters ended up was ok and made sense. i gotta say that its tough to read a lot of this at once. it made me feel a little depressed at times... anyway i still think this was a great read and i suggest it to anyone looking for a twisted version of finding happiness.

Time for another author recommendation. sparking93 recommended me Kokou No Hito, a seinen manga about mountain climbing, being introverted and depression. Add great drawing style and lots of symbolism and you have another must-read. Then @Nashi showed me another manga, Innocent. I made a comment about the drawing style reminding me of Kokou no Hito and guess what, it's the currently ongoing work by that author, Shinichi Sakamoto! This one is "historical fiction", a genre that Tarantino's fans should know and enjoy thanks to his last two movies. There are enough people nitpicking how inaccurate history is portrayed, but I don't care because it's so entertaining and exciting. I suspect it's the amount of blood and intestines flying around. The story is about a young man who happens to be the oldest son in France' most notorious executioner family. His father insists on him becoming the new "Monsieur de Paris" and retells his life in which he managed to kill about 3000 people. Not only are the great visual metaphors still there, the drawing style has improved remarkably, too. I wish to see more of it and hope its ending will be satisfying.

Looks like it. Eden is a good manga. Sometimes a bit confusing and you shouldn't care too much about the characters because they die a lot, but it has a great story.

Characters dying all the time reminds me of that one manga with the roaches on mars and the insect human hybrids.

Terra Formars, kind of pisses me off. I read like the first 10 chapters, and EVERYONE dies. Does this get better? Is it worth reading? I mean only the artwork is good. There really isn't a story, yet. I am used to reading things like 20th Century Boys, and Kingdom. Which are really good. -

It kind of gets better when you get to the mainstory. At least I think so. And there will be a story. Ah come on, the story of kingdom isn't that complicated or thoughtful either.

Haha, i guess i can agree with the fact that Kingdom is not that complex, but the battle scenes are NICE. And Shin is cool. lol. 20th Century boys though is a piece of art
