Indiana Purdue University - Chemical Engineering/Economics Major. Minor - Math, accounting, and Chemistry 2008 Pros - partial ride, great job placement, and co-op program. Largest percentage of engineers come from purdue. Great engineering program. Cons - Chicks are ugly (yeah kinda sucks) the hot ones are the ones that know they are hot and are bitches. Teachers can be horrible. One of my fluid dynamics classes the average grade was around 28%. So get used to curves. a hella lot of curves. Only good for engineering and supply chain. any other non engineering major is weak sauce.

Brazil has TONS of opportunities for english speaking people. If you can speak both well tons of opportunities. rising middle class trails only that of china and tons of money flowing in. I say good if he can speak both Portuguese and english well

I had a TA who was a lawyer going to nursing school, he said the male to female ratio was amazing, but don't expect many fathers to be impressed that you're a nursing student. He talked about how bad the m/f ratio was at law school and a big reason why he decided to go for nursing as well was for the girls. idk how it worked out for him, but at least he's got a law degree to fall back on.

Lots of people at UF transferred from CC, I'm kind of jealous because they saved TONS of money and had a really easy first two years If you're confident you can get straight A's at CC then you can transfer into top 50 universities pretty easy, so unless you're looking at like harvard or whatever then CC -> transfer isn't an awful idea -
Date: Fri, Mar 30 2012 18:48:17
Lol I have worked in almost every field. I'm proud of my engineering degree but don't want to work in it. I mean i've done consulting for a startup, engineering for general electric, finance for citi and morgan stanley, database programmer for indiana university (don't ask), and protein synthesis research for argon laboratory. I have kinda dabbled in everything. And basically I went to do finance for the quick cash (it's basically dumb people getting overpaid to do grunt work). killed myself for 3-4 years and pretty much just mainly doing investing now full time in commodities and real estate and a few random education/pen/consulting businesses on the side. i get bored easily and i like doing stuff on my own time. I work whenever I want but i probably put in more than 50 hours a week easy and I like the a flexibility. Engineering if great honestly in this economy. 60-80k paid out of school is wonderful but doesn't have the same bonus potential as finance where first year people can rake in 200k+ easily. It's a lot of luck involved in getting a good finance job. Engineering is a great high paid position and recommended in this economy. I just don't want to be tied to a cooperation and want the freedom to travel whenever i want. it's not for everyone but I figure I'll kill myself for half a decade and then chill from age 30- death

Haha I didnt realize you'd think that i would go to CC ONLY. Definitely transferring when i find my direction. Also, CC then transferring to a Uni is sooo much cheaper. The last thing i want to do is be controlled over massive amounts of Student Loan debt. That'd be stupid.
-
Date: Fri, Mar 30 2012 22:28:44
the only downside to CC is that you kinda miss the freshman atmosphere which, looking back, I 'd probably be stupid enough to pay for as that was probably my most entertaining year of my life. but from a practicality and cost perspective , cc then transfer is smart.

This guys knows what's up. Too bad I know I cant afford going to a Uni for 4 years, even with my scholarships and grants. I'd be better off going to a local CC and transferring to a UC via the TAG program. The depressing part about going to a CC is that it simply isnt prestigious or impressive compared to going to a 4-year. In this case, however, it's smarter to give up prestige and honor for a more economically feasible pathway to college. Even though I've been accepted into quite a few colleges, I know for a fact that I cant get pay for much without taking out a loan. I understand that college is an investment worth taking out a loan for; but I refuse to be a college kid stuck with a $40,000+ debt to pay off WITH INTEREST. It's all about choices at this point. :/ I'm going to start college this summer and continue until I gain enough credits to satisfy IGETC reqs (for UCs/CSUs). Then Im going to transfer to either UCI, UCR, UCLA, or UCD for biochem/bio engr. with pre-med. Both going to a 4-year and to a CC have their pros and cons. Again, it really is up to the student. Goodluck to all college-bound UPSB members. Especially, @JackyMacky -

No, we have a extra fee for international students because we are all nazis and don't want foreigners in our country! Actually, some Parts of Germany still have university fees but international students usually don't have to pay them. All the German students mentioned in this thread pay between 200-300€ each semester (no fees, mostly for public transportation and the student council), except for 3A5. Niedersachsen still has university fees, which makes a total of 600-700€ each semester. -

@PenwisH, do you think bio E is viable as far as job prospects go in engineering, or would one be better served to study mech E or chem E w/ possible Minor in Bio? I know a lot of the advice online says bio E is a terrible decision, and talking to my engineering teacher at school he was trying to get me to lean against that as well, thoughts? :3

I've never tried Adderall but I heard it's the shit. I don't want to start depending on it for every exam though :/ Will try it the night before exams if it is really necessary. And I don't really know where I can get them in London (I'm not local).

I bet you'll just do Computer Science to say "Yo, I've studied where wubspider did and failed.". And yes, I'm switching universities, it will probably be one in cologne that offers a dual education system. So what's left after passing their tests is finding a company for internship. Second attempt at computer science, here I come.
